Watching the eyes of the opposing player, sophomore Avery Nelson carefully  waits for her to decide the play. The girl’s water polo team were seated second in their district at the beginning of their season. “[Being a goalie] is very stressful,” Nelson said. “[It] feels like all the pressure is on you because youre the last line of defense, when the offensive opponents are coming at you, you always have to be on your guard. And Its very tough mentally because you always beat yourself up.”

With the finish line in sight and a 15-second lead, junior Isabel Conde De Frankenberg pushes her way through the final stretch of the Cedar Park Invitational. Conde De Frankenberg would go on to win the varsity girls 5K race for the second year in a row. “It was a good turnout, it was really fun,” Conde De Frankenberg said. “I love our school course, it was good being able to run on there and represent your own course.”

Senior Adam Vaughn pitches a fast ball towards the opposing team, hopeful for a strike. The team played a tournament against Cooper High School on March 25 with one win and one loss. “I’ve always been big into the weightroom and that has always come naturally,” Vaughn said. “But I have spent much more time on pitching and my hard work is definitely helping me become a better pitcher. Every player goes into games in practice with an intent of getting better at the game and becoming a better athlete.”

All three of the students passed the preliminary competition, with Wu earning gold for the 100-meter breaststroke and Koltz and Mongenel earning bronze for the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter freestyle respectively. “State this year was probably the best meet experience i’ve ever had,” Wu said. “While I had won last year, the guys and girls meet was separated and there were limited spectators, and so it was definitely not as exciting. This year, though, we had a very large team go from Cedar Park, and that honestly just made everything so much more fun.”

Raising their UIL plaque in the air, senior Megan Woods and her teammates yell in celebration of winning the State Championship. The Lady Timberwolves beat Frisco Memorial’s Warriors 45-40 in double overtime. “We had to work hard and stay disciplined and focused for months, so finally achieving our set goal was indescribable,” Woods said. “As seniors, we always talked about leaving a legacy behind and having an undefeated season with being back to back state champions does just that, which is an amazing way to finish off our high school basketball careers.”

On Friday Feb. 25 the varsity boys won their district game against Liberty Hill 2-0. [Being captain] means a lot I was a captain chosen by every person on the team, Guzman said. It was our first win in district so it was a pretty good feeling and it was refreshing, it put is back to the race for playoffs. Our hopes are to finish strong, win everything we have left, and then hope for the best.

Senior Diego Salazar Lopez competes in the 50 yard butterfly on Nov. 5 at the Leander and Gateway Tri Meet, where he won fourth place out of 22 other boys. Salazar is one of the top swimmers in the boys division, and one of the qualifiers for the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association meet. Since freshman year, it feels that I have received more respect than how I was my previous years, more trust in the team, and more relaxed, Lopez said. I feel as though I have improved greatly each year. I’ve gotten faster and stronger physically, emotionally, and mentally.
