Extraordinary Magic

The trunk of the car slammed shut with a resounding thump. It had been a long day climbing in the American Fork Canyon in Utah, and we were all ready to get home and shower. Our good mood, however, was...

With the SAT, ACT, and PSAT around the corner, students like senior Frances Tran purchase workbooks to help them study. When she was studying for the SAT, Tran practiced reading on Monday, writing on Tuesday, math on Wednesday, and when she felt she had studied a topic enough, she moved on.“[In order to study] during the summer, I bought these Panda Books,” Tran said. “You can buy them on Amazon, and you can get them in specified subjects. I thought those were really good for helping you study because they teach you specific types of problems that the SAT is going to have. I also use Khan Academy to do the full practice tests.”

The room is quiet except for the sound of tapping feet and clacking keyboards. Rows of white desks line the area, and everyone has identical expressions of fear. As the students scramble to remember everything...

After winning the Bi-District match against Smithson Valley, the varsity tennis team poses for a team picture. The team finished second overall in district, became Area Champions and advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals. “I’m just reminiscing and trying to hold onto all these matches [we’re playing] in the fall because fall season is always my favorite,” senior Gaby Coutts said. “The fall season is just primarily a team sport, so we’re all together at all times, which is what I love about tennis. I love being with my teammates, so I’m definitely holding onto all the memories we’re making, and I’m just really proud of everything we’ve been able to accomplish together.”

Eyes On The Prize

The tension hangs thick in the air as the whole team sits on the benches nervously. Legs bouncing, nails and lips being chewed on, but no one is as nervous as the one on the court. The one who determines...

Standing on top of a ladder, junior Blake Musfeldt plays his solo for a fan favorite, “Metal Shop” during the game against Cedar Ridge on Aug. 25. This is Musfeldt’s third year with the program, and he said he has enjoyed the process that comes with being a part of such a successful band. “A big part of band is just appreciating all of the music you get to hear and focusing on achieving your own personal best, as opposed to striving for a certain placement or title,” Musfeldt said.

2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021. Four straight state titles; six in the program's history. Practically a decade of dominance. This is what is on the mind of marching band members as they set their sights on...

Posing for a picture at last year’s homecoming, sophomore Emilya Garza sits with her friends on a couch set up for photo-taking. At the 2022 dance, there were arcade machines and students were able to purchase disposable cameras. “Honestly my favorite memory was taking pictures with the couch,” Garza said. “They set up a couch at homecoming and [the backdrop behind] it said ‘2022 Homecoming.’ Everybody was taking pictures there and you could get 20 people on that couch it felt like. That was my favorite part because you could take pictures and laugh and you’ll have them forever.”

Posing next to her 2015 Hyundai Sonata, junior and Celebrities Dance Team Second Lieutenant Sophie Poulsen holds up her license. Poulsen’s car was stolen on Aug. 28 from the school parking lot, and was missing for a day before police recovered it. “I was shocked,” Poulsen said. “I never expected, especially in Cedar Park, for my car to get stolen. I still don’t know who [stole my car], but I wish I knew. I don’t think the cops are going to figure it out, because there’s no point. It already happened. We’re probably never going to know. I feel like it was a student, but who knows? [Nevertheless], Cedar Park is not that [kind of place].”

In the early years of my life, I thought there was nothing to be scared of except bulldogs and people putting raisins in baked goods. However, there was one thing that would always make the color drain from my face and cause a cold sweat to break out across my brow, and it was just two terrifying words. Family pictures.

Oh Shoot

In order to hide their phone from other people, they will lower their hand and place it near the steering wheel. At night, people sometimes lower their brightness just so others can’t tell whether they are really on it or not. Even though people have come up with many different ways to text and drive, the fact that there are different ways is just depressing.

Put It Down

Focused on his work, Tech Director Trevor Smith measures a piece of the set for The One Act Play That Goes Wrong. This is Smiths first year as Tech Director for the theatre department, as he is motivated to use his expertise to the departments benefit. “I have a lot of carpentry experience,” Smith said. “Set design and construction [are] kind of my bread and butter. [This should] help “level up” our set quality and safety. Hopefully actors will feel safe on the sets and technicians will be safe building them.”

Wearing a Spider-Man suit, sophomore Ben Akers poses on top of a rock. “I’m just Im truly fascinated by his story because, like, hes just this teenager dude, and then he gets bitten by a spider and then a ton of bad stuff happens to him, but he just keeps trucking along and keeps being a good person,” Akers said. “I have a Spider-Man suit and it was kind of a joke at first, but now its not really a joke. I just am Spider-Man.”
