American Horror Story captivating viewers

The show that has caused mixed opinions nation-wide, has finished their fifth season called “Hotel.” American Horror Story has outdone themselves, yet again. The new season brought about new characters that fans have grown to love and a new plot that was very exhilarating, to say the least.
“Hotel” featured new faces such as, Lady Gaga who played the Countess, Matt Bomer as Donovan, Cheyenne Jackson as Will Drake and many more. These new actor and actresses did cause me to be a little apprehensive at first, but once I had watched a couple of episodes, I was hooked.
The season was based off of true hotel horror stories, according to the directors, and they planned to make this fifth season one of darkest, and it was. Every episode kept me on edge, wanting more.
The show was placed in Los Angeles, California at the Hotel Cortez. The owner of this hotel was named James Patrick March, played by Evan Peters. March was a mastermind serial killer and created the hotel in order to hide his kills. At the opening of his hotel in the 1920s, he spotted The Countess and fell in love. With twists and turns of lovers and enemies, I was left sometimes angered and sometimes gleeful.
The acting was quite phenomenal. Gaga portrayed the Countess perfectly. Her acting was spot on, with dramatic dialogue and scenes full of emotion. I was taken aback by the emotion Gaga showed through her character.
One character that stood out the most to me was Sarah Paulson’s, who played Sally McKenna. I don’t believe Paulson got enough credit for her part in the show. Sally was confusing, mysterious and intriguing. She always had her signature smeared makeup and tears streaming down her face. Sally’s questionable sense of humor and haunting back story, made her my favorite character.
“Hotel” was by far my favorite season, but one thing I did catch was the incorporation of characters from past seasons. Some of these past characters are played by actors and actresses that already have a character in the season “Hotel.” So you see the same actor playing two different characters, and it gets a little confusing. Besides that slight hiccup and the fact that actress Jessica Lange wasn’t in this season, I am in love with “Hotel.”
I give the show 8 out of 10 stars only because of the confusing switch between characters and the same actor.
