Senior Aidan Brown has played the saxophone since the beginning of middle school. He plans to continue his music career at UT Austin, where he is majoring in Music Performance. In fifth grade, we had to make a choice on our instruments for middle school band, Brown said. Since then, practicing the saxophone and perfecting my craft has been my primary motivation.

Swimming her way to the finish line, senior Stella Shipps competes at the Belton swim meet on Dec. 16. Shipps has been swimming since she was nine and enjoys the sport to this day. “[Swimming] gives me the opportunity to do one of the things I love the most,” Shipps said. “[Through swimming] I am able to improve something about myself every day.”

Hadley listens to her podcast to ensure that everything is good to go before she uploads it. Davis said that they started the podcast during the pandemic as a way for them to connect with their friends and family who they don’t get to see or talk to too often. We wanted them to feel like they are right there with us having a conversation, Davis said.

Jasmine Cooper sits on the steps of her house, dressed up for the ACDA After Party. Cooper was one of the students who participated in the ACDA and was proud of the effort that the team put in. “For the people who wanted to view our recorded concert in-person, [which had] limited seating,  just choir students and their families and friends [were allowed],” Cooper said. “We had an ACDA watch party in the PAC ,because us seniors, who were juniors last year, didn’t have a prom, and we had a great idea to make the event formal. Our recording and video, our concert, was amazing. To see our hard work and our choir directors’ efforts pay off was truly a sight.”

Smiling at the camera, senior Breland Mungia shows off her University of Mary Hardin-Baylor soccer shirt.  When collegiate offers began rolling in during the fall of her junior year, although Mungia was excited, she knew she wanted to stay in Texas to continue her education. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor became the perfect choice and she officially committed to play soccer. 
“I am very much a homebody and being on that campus made me feel comfortable and at home,” Mungia said. “The quality of their athletic facilities was also very appealing and everyone I met on campus was so welcoming.

Holding their flags, the color guard performs in the gym. Although the varsity team did not make it to finals this year, according to senior color guard member Bolt Gonzalez, the color guard was able to overcome many challenges, including virtual competitions. 
“We are all [in] guard to learn new things and be challenged so we are happy with the progress we have made this year,” Gonzalez said. “It sucks a little not having in-person competitions and performing in a mask is difficult at times but we can still be together and, to me, that’s what counts.”

CPHS HOSA competitors hold up their awards for winning at the regional conference last February. Junior Aashna Ravi is one of the members who won regionals, therefore she moved on to state. I think it was more of a surprise that we won because I was very focused on running for regional office, and also I knew I had made a couple of mistakes during the skills portion of my event, Ravi said. Although I was definitely excited as the previous year I had also moved on to State, but was unable to compete to my fullest as I was sick the day of my competition.
