Endl explained the proper safety precautions to take on April 8 when the solar eclipse passes through Williamson County. “Make sure you have the proper protection for the eyes,” Endl said. “In terms of other safety measures, if you are going to go somewhere, be prepared. For example, pack water and snacks. The travel on the way back can be very complicated because everybody goes at the same time, when the sun is out of the eclipse, everyone leaves at the same time, so there have been lots of traffic jams in the past.”

Walking through the tunnel created by the cheerleaders and Celebrities, senior Frances Tran smiles as the soccer team is sent off during DEN for their playoff game against Rouse tonight. Tran said the wins against Smithson Valley and Alamo Heights gave the team a morale boost to take on the Raiders tonight. “I know we were not 100% confident in those games,” Tran said. “But, Rouse is a big opponent for sure. We’re definitely going into tonight with a lot of morale [because of the previous wins].”

Yearbooks have been on sale for $80 all school year, with 90 left in stock. “Im really happy with this book,” content editor and senior James Sanderson said. “I think other people are going to be happy with it; all our pages look really cute. Issues are a thing, but we have them every single year and we dont let them get in the way. We work on a very, very tight schedule and theres no pushing deadlines back. It’s a lot of fun, though. Terry said his proudest moments are when his students are happy to see him. “When I take my wife to a football game or something and a bunch of students want to say hi to me or they like to smile and wave and it just makes me feel good that the students are really kind and supportive of me,” Terry said. “[I’m also] proud when I see students perform really well in their extracurriculars because I can see how hard they’re working in my classes, [so] when I see that they’re also working so hard in other things. Like they’re winning band competitions or they’re getting awards for their theater productions, or I see them put on their choir shows, that’s like, wow, you guys are incredible.”

Senior Ash Foster poses next to her project she built for to attend the San Antonio Ag Mech show. Her purple planter built for her mom earned herself a blue ribbon. “I think it was really fun to learn how to paint,” Foster said. “We used spray paint primer and then two coats of paint and I thought that was really fun. We had to clean the entire thing. We had to wire wheel it and there was still splatter after and I spent like 3 hours cleaning. I had to put a hazmat suit on with a respirator. I absolutely loved it. I feel like Im in Monsters Inc right now. All the projects were all black and the only way you could see mine was because it was purple.”

Standing triumphantly with trophy in hand, the CPHS FTC Robotics team holds up their regional Motivate award. Although losing in regional semifinals, team 14361 will be moving on to compete in UIL State and FTC State. “It was the first time weve had two teams from Cedar Park make it to regionals,” Lovelace said. “Both teams made it to the playoffs which was really good. Last year we only had one team make it to regionals, so that was cool.”

Reading together, juniors Ashley Blair and Amia De Leon lean over the Bible to study the chapters they have chosen to discuss as a group. Blair said that the Bible Study Club has benefitted her in many ways, and it can benefit other students as well by giving them a deeper understanding of the Bible. “This club increases the Christian community connection at our school, and provides students a place to ask questions about the Bible, pray for one another, and give each other strong, Christian-centered advice,” Blair said. “It truly makes me joyous to see the impact that this club has on some students, and encourages me to keep Christ at the forefront of my life.” Photo courtesy of Violet Harmon

Ismail was awarded Newcomer of the Year, which is given to a new varsity player across the district who is a standout. “In my first ever varsity game, I was nervous about a lot of things, the biggest was if I was going to be able to make shots in the game,” Ismail said. “I remember being nervous up until I made my first shot and then from there I felt really comfortable and confident out on the floor.”

DEN, a 35-minute-long free period students are given, is used in many ways for a variety of purposes. Students use this time to work on homework, make up missed tests and sometimes catch up with friends. Lots of students use DEN to run “errands,” as well, whether that means picking up an assignment from a teacher, visiting with a student teacher or asking the librarian about a tech issue. Students can no longer leave their designated classroom during DEN, even to go to the restroom.

The team is currently fifth in districts with a record of 4-3. “Were neck and neck with a lot of other teams right now,” Head Baseball Coach Tyler Farst said. “The district championship right now is wide open for anybody. Everybody’s got a couple of losses, nobodys really running away with the lead. Looking forward, we’re going to continue to keep competing. We take it one week at a time.”

The varsity cheer team performs at the UIL Spirit State Championship on Jan. 13. They also competed in Orlando, Florida, for the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship on Feb. 16, which concluded their competition season. “My favorite thing about the team is our ability to make anything fun,” senior captain Katelyn Orzoco said. “We are constantly laughing and having fun with each other. The bond we have is like no other. But when it comes time to focus and work, we get things done.”

During his regular season, he went 24-3. “Wrestling is my whole life,” Brandt said. “I’ve done it since I’ve walked. It teaches you a lot of good stuff on how to be a better human, and you can definitely learn a lot rather than just how to pin someone. Leaping into the air, bending towards the water to complete his dive, sophomore Rustin Wilkinson competes in the first dive competition of the season, Mavwood invitational. Wilkinson has been diving for a year and a half and is seeded second for districts. “Diving is hard because it requires you to know where you are in the air,” Rustin said. “You have to know which rotation you are in when you are spinning. [I dive] because I want to get in the top ten at state. Last year [at state] I got second to last, but this year I want to get in the top ten so I can see all my hard work and perseverance pay off.”

The wrestling team prepares for their district matches, which will take place on Jan. 27 for junior varsity wrestlers and Feb. 3-4 for varsity wrestlers. The team continues to work on perfecting their techniques and growing their bond as a program. “My favorite thing about the team is definitely the brotherhood that comes with it,” sophomore Miles Jones said. “We are a big family. Knowing you always have your team backing you up is one of the greatest feelings ever.”

Trying to regain strength with every breath, sophomore Patrico Salazar competes in the longest event in UIL high school swimming, the 500-yard freestyle. For the fourth meet of the season, the swim team drove to The University of Texas where they participated in the annual AISD invite. Like the teams times, the temperatures outside were starting to drop. Regardless of how much I swam, I was only able to sustain for an hour of practice, Salazar said. Then I started shivering while swimming and turning purple on my hands, feet and pretty much all around.”

Keeping her eye on the ball, freshman Joy Udoye watches closely as the ball bounces off her arms and into the setters hands. Udoye said her time on varsity this season allowed her to have fun with other people. “Ever since tryouts my time on varsity has been extremely fun,” Udoye said. “It’s amazing to get to spend this time with such great people while playing the sport that I love.”
