Sprinting at an angle senior and center-midfielder Eugenio Guzman defends the ball from the opposing player, and preventing goals scored. On Friday Feb. 25 the varsity boys won their district game against Liberty Hill 2-0. [Being captain] means a lot I was a captain chosen by every person on the team, Guzman said. It was our first win in district so it was a pretty good feeling and it was refreshing, it put is back to the race for playoffs. Our hopes are to finish strong, win everything we have left, and then hope for the best.

Junior Amani Graham takes to the skies in the hundred meter hurdles. This was the varsity girls first meet of the season and they faced off against Leander and Rouse. I was really focused on not screwing up, Graham said. I made sure to pull my trail leg down to make my next steps to the next hurdle. form is very important for all running events, but especially for hurdles.

Senior Diego Salazar Lopez competes in the 50 yard butterfly on Nov. 5 at the Leander and Gateway Tri Meet, where he won fourth place out of 22 other boys. Salazar is one of the top swimmers in the boys division, and one of the qualifiers for the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association meet. Since freshman year, it feels that I have received more respect than how I was my previous years, more trust in the team, and more relaxed, Lopez said. I feel as though I have improved greatly each year. I’ve gotten faster and stronger physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Eyes on the end zone, senior running back Kevin Adams scores a touchdown in overtime on Nov. 12 against Johnson. According to Max Preps, Adams had 120 total yards and two touchdowns. “My two touchdowns felt pretty good, especially my overtime touchdown where we snatched the lead and having their fumble felt pretty good, Adams said.

As winners of the  BeYOUtiful Tournament on Nov. 13, the varsity team smiles with their medals. After earning a state title last year for the first time in school and district history, the team has their sights on winning again this year. “The two main goals this season is another district championship and another run at state with high hopes to repeat,” junior Molly Ly said. “I think our teams strongest attribute is our ability to play selflessly and our ability to play hard. We do an awesome job of sharing the ball, and we always go one hundred percent even if we are up by 20.”

Both the varsity boys and girls teams have been competing in tournaments since Sept. and will continue competing through Dec. “The varsity boys team has been doing well, and the girls varsity team is doing good, too,” Breed said. “I hope that we can go to State and compete.”

Running at the State Championships, Isa Conde De Frankenberg places third with a time of 17:26.3 minutes. Conde De Frankenberg advanced to State as an individual, and the varsity boys team competed as well, placing seventh. “I was really excited to come here for a second year in a row, and it was a little disappointing that the girls team didn’t make it, but I just had to keep training hard and be prepared for State, Conde De Frankenberg said. I was really excited, but also really nervous because there’s such amazing runners out here and it’s a really big competition. I definitely wanted a faster time or a better place, but overall, I’m just happy that I even got here and was able to place in the top three.”

Hoopfest, a fundraiser held for girls basketball on Oct. 23, consisted of open practices, a free throw competition and barbecue plates. It is honestly incredible how much money we raised from Hoopfest, and I would like to thank all the people in the community who donated and helped support our program,” Hayes said. Fighting for dominance on the mat, sophomore Kylee Foulds competes in one of many wrestling tournaments in 2021. This year’s wrestling season will start in early November with the first tournament over Thanksgiving break. “I’m really excited for this season,“ Foulds said. “I’m expecting this season to be more challenging physically because of how short last season was because of COVID-19. It’s going to be tough to have to make weight for several months, and having several matches a week, but I’m glad that we have a full season this year.”
