Competing at the UIL Burnet meet on Jan. 15, junior Alex Thummalapalli talks with his partner during the computer science competition. In addition to his involvement in computer science, Thummalapalli is a member of the cybersecurity club, where they compete in Capture the Flag, or CTF, events. Ive always been interested in computer science, but the cybersecurity club was a new and interesting opportunity for me this year, Thummalapalli said. Its a lot more about problem solving and thinking your way through difficult prompts. Im on a team with some friends and we compete in CTF competitions where you have to try to break into networks, interpret data and perform other cool computer tasks. Its a lot of fun, and I know theres many more competitions coming up.

With pompoms in hand, sophomore Phoebe Solberg dances to Underneath the Tree in the Luminaries performance during the Holiday Show. The show was held on Dec. 2 in the PAC after a years hiatus due to COVID-19. As part of his training company, Skinner Elite Training, Skinner develops the skills of the next generation of football players. “‘Next play’ mentality means if you make a mistake that’s okay,” Skinner said. “The play is over and move on. It’s not about if you make a mistake or not, it’s about how you react and recover from that one mistake.”

Celebrating after her recitation, sophomore Emma Tapia poses for the camera after finishing reciting Aquainted with the Night by Robert Frost. Being the only one who competed, Tapia reflected about how she connected with the poem. I chose this poem because I thought the idea of wandering a place at night was something I was familiar with, Tapia said. At times, I find myself wandering my sleeping home to be in the stillness of the night and obtain a sense of ease.

The new Lost in Space series was recreated around 50 years after the original, and around 25 years after the movie. This time, its with a TV Series adaptation on Netflix. I personally wish there was another season, as I absolutely love the show, from the plot to the acting.

Entertainment Amongst the Stars

Ty Cathey, Reporter December 20, 2021

Heartbreak, action-packed, redemption and alien robots was the only way I could describe the newest season of "Lost in Space." The show is a remake of a 1965 series, and there was also a movie in 1998....

Juniors Natalie Danton, Isa Morgan, Tessa Griffin and Ainsley Harlans four phones show this years Spotify Wrapped. This is an event that is released towards the beginning of December every year. “I thought it was fine [Spotify Wrapped], I felt like they kind of tried too hard, with the intros and how it said things like ‘You understood the assignment’,” Griffin said. “It was kind of cringe. But overall, the information in it was good. I like that they added new stuff and kept it fresh. I thought it was pretty good overall, definitely better than Apple Music.”

Performing her part in the musical, senior Bella Birdsley sings No One Else. Musical theatre performed the Cabaret show, a performance that combines segments from several musicals together. The range of the song was perfect for me, Birdsley said. It really helped me get more comfortable on stage in more of an informal setting.

Unyielding to the opposing team, junior shooting and point guard Gisella Maul dribbles down the court. On Nov. 30, the varsity girls won their non-conference, home game against Waco University 59-29, adding to their overall 17-0 ranking but not contributing to district. “I feel like we’ve had a pretty tough schedule and they are all really good teams that we’ve played,” Maul said. “If anything the focus is more real [this year]. We still have something to prove and so we’ve been more focused and more determined because we know that we’re not just satisfied with winning one state championship, we have bigger goals in mind.”

Netflix and Chill suddenly got disappointing with how the new heist movie played out. Red Notice had a lot of potential, which kind of went to waste. While the whole movie was not up to my expectations for it, there were some exciting parts to it, such as the cinematography and the action scenes.
