The field was set and the lights were bright for the marching band to perform for the 5A championship title.

On Nov. 8, the band competed in the Alamodome with 35 other schools in the preliminary round of the State Marching Competition. From there, only 10 would make the finals to perform later in the evening. Cedar Park opened finals, performing first at 7:45 p.m.  Junior percussionist, Hannah Thor, explained how the experience and how the team performed at it’s best.

“We just knew that if we performed like the halftime shows, nothing could stop us,” Thor said.

In second place was Dripping Springs, who finished four points behind CP.  Another familiar school in the top ten was Rouse, who placed ninth. Band Director, Steve Wessels, explained how proud he is of the band and their work ethic this year.

“It has really been something to see the progress this team has made from the beginning of the year,” Wessels said. “I think the students are very excited to be the best band in the state.”
