After last night’s in Ontario, Austin Spurs are the 2018 NBA G League Champions. The NBA G League, or NBA Gatorade League, is the minor league basketball association of the NBA. It was formerly called the NBA Development League, but changed when Gatorade bought them out.

The Austin Spurs are the minor league affiliate of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, and most notably made Jonathan Simmons into a talented NBA player. Austin now has a superstar in the making of their own.

Derrick White has been the star of the Spurs’ team all season. He put in 35 points in game one of the NBA G League Finals in route to a Spurs victory. White is expected to be in the pros soon, possibly even for the San Antonio Spurs’ playoff run.

“[The Spurs] were all-around a very good team but were carried by Derrick White,” said Austin Spurs season ticket holder, sophomore Davis Baugh.

Not only did Austin win the title this season, but they also had a perfect postseason. They swept every team that they played in the playoffs, and ended up taking the title with a 98-76 game two victory over the 2017 champion Raptors 905. Austin now will hang its second banner in the rafters at H-E-B Center in Cedar Park.
