February often brings a wave of romantic films in line with Valentine’s Day celebrations and “Heart Eyes” delivers a unique twist by blending the meet-cute romance trope with thrilling elements of horror and gore. This captivating movie intertwines love and horror beautifully, appealing to viewers seeking both heartwarming moments and adrenaline-pumping suspense. It is a film full of clichés, jokes and an overall fun time.
“Heart Eyes” was released on Feb. 7 as a slasher rom-com spanning an hour and 30 minutes. Starring Disney and “Totally Killer” star Olivia Holt and “Scream” actor Mason Gooding they portray a mushy, cliché romance while being chased down by a killer who strikes couples on Valentine’s Day each year.
If you’re a prominent horror movie watcher, the story arc won’t shock you much, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out who the Heart Eyes killer is. and although it might be predictable, the humor still keeps it entertaining. The gore during the movie is disgustingly great and takes a nice turn from the generic knife-to-a-heart violence and instead shows some unique scenes that aren’t as stereotypical.
Created by the same team behind the iconic ”Scream,” movies? this film presents a refreshing take on what could have been a conventional romance, only to twist it into a thrilling narrative punctuated by a serial killer’s chilling presence. The performances delivered by the cast showed their range, seamlessly blending moments of humor and tension, ensuring that the emotional scenes resonate without feeling forced or uncomfortable. However, the film could have benefitted from a deeper exploration of character backstories; getting into their feelings a bit more would have been a great way to create a stronger connection with the audience instead of only exposing them to the surface-level backgrounds we get.
Although I thought the characters were well-written and played, some of their actions left me feeling confused, because both characters seemed surprisingly fine considering that a serial killer thought they were a couple and was continuously trying to kill them. It was odd, seeing them incredibly scared one second but then fine the next. Despite that, the jokes the characters landed on were a good distraction from the lack of fear that the movie induced.
The film carries an R-rating primarily due to its inappropriate humor and graphic violence, which may not suit all audiences. Despite these elements, it lacks genuine thrills, often being more predictable than suspenseful. It wasn’t hard to tell when the killer, Heart Eyes, would show up, which sometimes diminished the tension. However, the execution of the fight sequences deserves some applause; they are choreographed with skill and often have some unique aspects.
If you have a low tolerance for graphic violence, this film may not suit you, as it features gory scenes right from the beginning. However, for those intrigued by an amusing blend of romantic comedy and horror elements, this movie stands out as an excellent choice. It successfully balances humorous moments with thrilling scares, creating an entertaining experience. Personally, I left the theater happy and thoroughly entertained. I would rate “Heart Eyes” a solid four out of five hearts, highly recommending it for the right audience.

Yearbook won 43, newspaper won 14 and broadcast took home nine. “I think [the ILPC awards] are a great way to give the kids some acknowledgement for all of their hard work,” newspaper and yearbook adviser Paige Hert said. “They typically spend the year covering everyone else’s big moments, so it’s really cool for them to be celebrated so many times and in so many different ways.”](https://cphswolfpack.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/edited-ILPC.jpg)

"I feel like it’s not really appreciated in America as much, but [tennis] is a really competitive and mentally challenging sport,” Nguyen said. “I’m really level-headed and can keep my cool during a match, and that helps me play a bit better under pressure.” Photo by Kyra Cox](https://cphswolfpack.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/hasun.jpg)

Lucas broke the school’s 18-year-old record for the 500 freestyle at regionals and again at state with a time of 4:58.63. “I’d had my eye on that 500 record since my freshman year, so I was really excited to see if I could get it at regionals or districts,” Lucas said. “ State is always a really fun experience and medaling for the first time was really great. It was a very very tight race, [so] I was a bit surprised [that I medaled]. [There were] a lot of fast girls at the meet in general, [and] it was like a dogfight back and forth, back and forth.” Photo by Kaydence Wilkinson](https://cphswolfpack.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Kaydence-2.7-23-edit-2.jpg)
