From performing in her first play in seventh grade, to performing in many high school productions, such as “Cabaret” and “Funny Girl,” senior Abby Holtfort has been a part of the theater department for almost five years.

“I have been performing in musicals since seventh grade, but didn’t start taking acting seriously as a career until my sophomore year,” Holtfort said. “I started theater because I have always loved performing, and musicals really spoke to me as a way to make people happy and entertained.”

Her most memorable, yet challenging performance was playing the role of Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl.” To her, Fanny is unapologetic of herself and never apologizes for being different.

“Fanny is quite young at the beginning of the show, then it follows her all the way through a decade of marriage and having a baby,” Holtfort said. “It was like having to play two different people.”

Over the years, the theatre department has become a home to her and the people have really impacted her.

“Theatre really is family,” Holtfort said. “The department has been my home for almost five years and I couldn’t be more thankful for the people I have grown and learned with.”
