Tran said the wins against Smithson Valley and Alamo Heights gave the team a morale boost to take on the Raiders tonight. “I know we were not 100% confident in those games,” Tran said. “But, Rouse is a big opponent for sure. Terry said his proudest moments are when his students are happy to see him. “When I take my wife to a football game or something and a bunch of students want to say hi to me or they like to smile and wave and it just makes me feel good that the students are really kind and supportive of me,” Terry said. “[I’m also] proud when I see students perform really well in their extracurriculars because I can see how hard they’re working in my classes, [so] when I see that they’re also working so hard in other things. The students who participated in Academic UIL on April 23 and 24 came back with many state qualifiers.
Morgan Grosch got second place along with Macalah Thomas who received third in the Lincoln Douglass debate. The UIL overall science team composed of Drew Sommers, Anish Bose, Justin Lovelace and Po-Chi Chen received first. While Anish Bose individually received second in his test of physics. Josh Kolanbrander received third in number sense, and Lindsey Buggi came home with second place in headline writing. All of these students will be gong on to compete at the state level on the University of Texas campus, May 23-24.
Emma Lytle in poetry interpretation, Justin Lovelace in overall science, Josh Kolanbrander in math and Macy Loyd in editorial writing, will also be headed to state as alternates.
The Celebrities also assigned new officers. Hannah McQueen as captain, along with 1st lieutenant Claire Dunn. Tori Rankin, Lindesy Foster and Gracy Walker have all been assigned the position of second lieutenant. Roxy Mota and Ashley Itliong were designated social co-captains.
