Color Guard looking toward State competition

The Cedar Park Color Guard has been working hard this year to prepare for their competition season as well as the approaching state tournament.

The team had their first competition, the Cedar Park Classic, on Feb. 1. The team placed second out of the seven schools in the Scholastic A class.

“Scholastic A is a division of schools below open class, which is pretty high compared to the other categories,” sophomore Savannah Shadle said. “We are in the same class as Leander, Dripping Springs and Rouse, so we compete against them and the other teams in that category.”

The Color Guard also competed in the Leander Show on Feb. 8, in which they again placed second out of the five schools in the Scholastic A class.

The next competition is the O’Connor Show in Helotes on March 8. After that, the Color Guard will prepare for their state tournament. The TCGC (Texas Color Guard Circuit) Championship will be held in College Station on March 29-30.

“I have a lot of confidence in our show,” Shadle said. “If we can focus, I believe that the rest of the team and I will do great.”

Color Guard teams from all over the state will participate in the tournament, and Cedar Park will be competing against 28 other schools in the Scholastic A class.

“It’s my first year on Color Guard, but it is super fun,” Shadle said. “The returning members help the new members and we all work together to do the best we can.”
