A Game Most Dangerous

On March 20, the theatre program performed their UIL One Act play Frankenstein. “I could barely believe what I heard after [it was] announced that we were advancing,” freshman Zack Williams said. “It was crazy. Being one of the only freshmen in the show and also [being] a lead definitely put pressure on my shoulders. I knew that the only thing I could do was my best, but that was until I started to think what if my best was not enough? I was feeling like I could never amount to being what [everyone else] thought I was. Holding up a visual representation of the solar system, Baylor Astronomy Professor and department head Dr. Barbara Endl, PHD. gives a presentation on the solar eclipse during DEN on March 22. Endl explained the proper safety precautions to take on April 8 when the solar eclipse passes through Williamson County. “Make sure you have the proper protection for the eyes,” Endl said. “In terms of other safety measures, if you are going to go somewhere, be prepared. For example, pack water and snacks. The travel on the way back can be very complicated because everybody goes at the same time, when the sun is out of the eclipse, everyone leaves at the same time, so there have been lots of traffic jams in the past.”

Desai will be attending Brown University in the fall to pursue an education in medicine. “The feeling of finishing a race is so rewarding,” Desai said. “Being involved in a variety of extracurriculars has taught me how to balance my time and be well rounded. Crossing her fingers tightly, senior Sophie Triche smiles proudly for her senior photo. Triche plans to attend Kilgore college and is hopeful to continue high kicking with the Rangerettes in the fall. “When I first saw the Rangerettes, I was enamored by how professional they were,” Triche said. “It made me absolutely fall in love with them and everything they do. I knew I wanted to dance after high school and the Rangerettes to me, feels like home. Von Wupperfeld was a founding member of the club, along with a long line of other activities at Cedar Park that earned him the title of Most Involved. “All of the music programs at our school are very, very dedicated, Von Wupperfeld said. Its kind of an all or nothing type of deal. And I am not a big fan of the all or nothing. So I kinda found a garage band to house all of the musicians who didnt have a place in the school or people who didnt have a traditional instrument they played. Holding her debut novel Lorida, senior Lilly Stone poses with her self-published novel for her senior photos. Stone said that she is optimistic about what her future holds in the literary world, and is proud of how far she has come despite the odds. “It doesnt take a special skill set to write a book, and you don’t have to be anyone special to do it,” Stone said. “If you have the drive and motivation, you have to just keep pushing yourself to write even when you don’t feel like it, because, in the end, you will be proud of what you’ve accomplished.” Courtesy of Lilly Stone

Waterloo swim instructor, Emler swim instructor, and Camp Hope leader are just some of the jobs available for students over the summer. Junior Clara Rabago will be working as a small group leader at Camp Hope for two weeks over the summer where she will be taking care of the children there and participating in activities such as church services, games, art, and science. “I’m excited to have my own kids this year,” Rabago said. “I like seeing how a kid will come in and be super shy, but then they come out all being friends. They’re so happy and energetic and it’s just cool to see how much these kids grow within a week.”
Free At Last… Or Maybe Not

Hands high in the air and cheering in front of the PAC, Varsity Winter Guard gives one last goodbye before they headed off to the Reid Arena in College Station where they would end up placing fourth at their state competition. Sophomore Tiffany Ly says state was an experience she’ll never forget. “I know that our team has put so much hard work into everything and its just genuinely so cool to see the show put together,” Ly said. “But our staff and our chaperons really help put the show together as well, helping lift us up, bring stuff that we need and support from the band is also really great.”

A Scary Good Play

Yearbooks have been on sale for $80 all school year, with 90 left in stock. “Im really happy with this book,” content editor and senior James Sanderson said. “I think other people are going to be happy with it; all our pages look really cute. Issues are a thing, but we have them every single year and we dont let them get in the way. We work on a very, very tight schedule and theres no pushing deadlines back. It’s a lot of fun, though. Senior Ash Foster poses next to her project she built for to attend the San Antonio Ag Mech show. Her purple planter built for her mom earned herself a blue ribbon. “I think it was really fun to learn how to paint,” Foster said. “We used spray paint primer and then two coats of paint and I thought that was really fun. We had to clean the entire thing. We had to wire wheel it and there was still splatter after and I spent like 3 hours cleaning. I had to put a hazmat suit on with a respirator. I absolutely loved it. I feel like Im in Monsters Inc right now. All the projects were all black and the only way you could see mine was because it was purple.”

Having played since she was 5 years old, she is dedicated to softball and has committed to UTPB for softball. “When I got my offer it took me a very long time to decide where,” Robinson said. “Softball has always been my dream for college, and UTPB is my fit. When [I committed] I knew I was going to be loved and supported.”

Ismail was awarded Newcomer of the Year, which is given to a new varsity player across the district who is a standout. “In my first ever varsity game, I was nervous about a lot of things, the biggest was if I was going to be able to make shots in the game,” Ismail said. “I remember being nervous up until I made my first shot and then from there I felt really comfortable and confident out on the floor.”

Smiling at the camera with paddles in hand, my siblings and I pose for a picture at the end of the school’s pickleball club. Pickleball is a wonderful sport simply because it is just fun. It is so satisfying to hit a ball right where you intended it to go, to work with your teammate to win against your opponent and to master a skill you’ve worked so hard to perfect. I know that if you give pickleball a shot, you can experience these things too, and you’ll soon find yourself obsessed.

Prom was on April 6, 2024 at the Bob Bullock Museum and lasted from 7-11 p.m. Tickets were $60 per person and promised a DJ, photo booths, games, drinks and light snacks. Students voted on a theme of Casino Royale, but the only on-theme aspects were the poker chips. Prom was okay, but definitely needs to be revamped for next year.
