On Nov. 5 and 6, the Cedar Park FFA chapter will host its second annual livestock jackpot show at the school barn. Lambs and goats will be showing on Saturday, and swine will show on Sunday. Students are welcome to attend either day’s shows and watch Cedar Park FFA members show their livestock animals.

A little girl throws a bean bag at last year’s No Place For Hate booth at Trunk or Treat. This year, the event will run Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. in the front parking lot and is open to anyone in the community. “This year, I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the kids, the community, and all of the fun costumes,” Kirkland said. “I really love this event because I get to see everyone’s interests and creativity through their costumes, and it helps me connect with the community too.”

More than 50 students, all donned in red T shirts, pose for a group picture at the front grounds of the school, holding various signs and symbols. These students all engaged in a silent, peaceful protest regarding the Roe v. Wade and abortion situation as of now. “It felt kind of empowering,” senior Aleksae Watson said. “Because they were all there for the same thing. We all are aware that what’s going on isn’t right. I’d say it’s not appropriate. We all deserve our rights and our freedoms and it’s just being stripped from us.”

Pointing Fingers, junior Kira Griffin and senior Brady Allen argue on who the real killer is in the theatre departments production of A Games Afoot. Their annual dinner show was held on Nov 11 and 13 and invited audience members to enjoy a dinner and a show filled with mystery and murder. The show was good we sold out both nights, Allen said. It was weird process just because we had so much going on in the month of November and some people were very new to the process but as the upperclassmen kind of guided a few people we were able to get back on track and the show turned out really well.

The project was due Friday, November 11, and involved students visiting a graveyard, taking a picture of a gravestone and writing a poem about it. “My favorite part was really trying to put myself into the perspective of my poem, which was extremely eye opening,” alumni Hailey Bowerman said. “It really made me appreciate life and the people I love around me and it really opened my eyes to how precious life and love is, especially when we are young.”

Trying to regain strength with every breath, sophomore Patrico Salazar competes in the longest event in UIL high school swimming, the 500-yard freestyle. For the fourth meet of the season, the swim team drove to The University of Texas where they participated in the annual AISD invite. Like the teams times, the temperatures outside were starting to drop. Regardless of how much I swam, I was only able to sustain for an hour of practice, Salazar said. Then I started shivering while swimming and turning purple on my hands, feet and pretty much all around.”

Presenting in front of the class, senior Jaden Kolenbrander introduces students to his new chapter of Amnesty International Club. The club, started by Kolenbrander, will serve as a way for CPHS students to speak out and educate themselves about political issues and will hold meetings on the third Tuesday of each month in room 5009. “Anyone who is interested in increasing their involvement in the community and advocating for far-reaching issues that affect everyone [can join],” Kolenbrander said. “However, we also want to emphasize that anyone can become an advocate. Its a good opportunity for them to become more involved in their community and learn about the importance of human rights advocacy.”

Posing in front of the French flag, new French teacher Naomi Campbell is the newest teacher in the department and sponsor of the French Honor Society. While being a small community of just under 100 students, the language is connected by passionate students both in the class and in FHS, as well as being an equally important language to learn. “Its the third most spoken language in the world, Campbell said. “Its used in business a lot of the time. So its very useful for international commerce. And its an official language of the UN. Its the official language of the Olympics.”

Welcoming NHS members at their monthly meeting, seniors Jackson Woods and Ashley Chikkala help provide a welcoming community for the school through service projects. “To me, NHS is a lot about the service opportunities that you are able to get from it,” Chikkala said. “Because its not that difficult to have a super high GPA, if you just take the right classes and do the right things. But its difficult to make sure that you are getting those grades, along with still being involved in extracurriculars and helping your community and working and just generally being a good person.”

Trying not to be basic, she said, she decided to mix her pink and green paint both with white to make two new colors and make the lines different sizes. “I looked up some ideas on Pinterest, but those were ones everyone was doing, so I decided to just use the two colors I wanted -green and pink- and just drew random, curved lines that were different sizes and added my name,” Gazlay said. “The process was pretty long and took four separate days to do it.”

The concert was held on Nov. 12, and 47 of the choir program’s students practiced for 10 hours in preparation for the concert. “I love the Region concert,” Newman said. “It’s the best voices in the region all together, so basically every moment is so musical. I think my favorite part was definitely our ending song “Trinity Te Deum.” It’s just a gorgeous, happy song that is full of so many powerful chords.”

During the Nov. 11 ceremony, school nurse Tara Jo Frost recites the names of military veterans who have ties to the school as faculty members, former students or family of faculty members. According to Frost, the Veterans Day ceremony gives students an opportunity to recognize the importance of honoring the troops. I think that we dont have the ability to see the people that have fought for our country and know their stories, and [the ceremony] gives a chance for a younger population to see the importance, and see the reverence for why we do certain things we do for our government, Frost said.

Under the hot sun of Arizona, social studies teacher Mark Tibbetts and his dog, Boston, pose for a picture. Tibbetts got his masters in education at the University of Arizona, where he was living when he was reunited with his dog after five years. “[Boston] taught me balance,” Tibbetts said. “It’s a test of how far you are willing to go to take care of another creature whether its a dog or a human. Learning how to take care of another living thing takes a lot of maturity because you have to put it before yourself. [Boston] brings me a lot of joy, happiness, and love. I love this dog more than the world, I’d do anything for him.”

Most of his free time is spent practicing his show music & contest études. “I’ve been pushing really hard to practice in the little free time I have,” Rios said. “But I’m hoping to potentially make District this year and continue getting better to make State. This is all to say that I’m incredibly motivated to keep getting better at my instrument, and to possibly pursue music performance or education as a career.”

In addition to choir, Ferguson is also playing the Synthesizer for the bands show this fall. “I like the community with choir, I like the people and I love singing,” Ferguson said. “With the band, I like the new experience. Coming in as a new person I liked how they took me in right away.”

Stopping to smell the flowers, Estelle the guinea pig stands between two flower arrangements. English teacher Kim Vidrine has been bringing her guinea pig to school since the start of the last school year. [Having Estelle at school has] been a lot of fun for me, Vidrine said. I love having her here, and I like that she hears voices all day and sees people. A couple of weeks ago I posted [on Instagram] a book talk as if Estelle were doing it. I’m going to start using her Instagram page as a way to do book recommendations for followers.

With Overwatch being a hit worldwide, the sequel seems to be just as popular, with a max player count of about 25 million in just 10 days. Although it has already been successful, veterans of the title are realizing just how similar the sequel is to the original game, almost making it just a reworked version of it. The gameplay isn’t very different, the campaign element that was supposed to be its selling point isn’t even out for players and the original system of getting customizable items has been scrapped and is instead a battle pass and item shop situation like many other free to play games.

With pompoms in hand, sophomore Phoebe Solberg dances to Underneath the Tree in the Luminaries performance during the Holiday Show. The show was held on Dec. 2 in the PAC after a years hiatus due to COVID-19. My favorite part of the holiday show was getting to spend time with my friends and getting to see everyone else perform as well, Solberg said. I love being on Luminaries because I get to spend a lot of quality time with my friends and grow as a dancer.

Coming off a tough non-district schedule and loss to Round Rock, varsity football won its first district game of the season against Georgetown 49-45. The game came down to the final minute, with the T-Wolves’ play cementing their lead. “Winning our first district game definitely helped us because we had just beat one of our toughest district opponents in a big way,” junior linebacker Isaac Barksdale said. “The mood was almost frustrated because it was that close of a game. But, it was also like ‘Okay, we know what we have to do, so let’s go do it.’

Anna said that the best part of the snow days was how pretty it was. “I loved going outside and taking pictures,” Anna said. “The worst part was not being able to drive anywhere. I had gotten my license the day before the snow and I had to wait a week before I could actually go anywhere because of the ice roads.”

Looking to the side, senior Sydney Poulsen extends her leg while en pointe at the Celebrities holiday show on Dec. 13. This performance was the first time Poulsen had performed while en pointe in two years. It was fun to be able to perform en pointe again,” Poulsen said. “I also loved getting to wear my old tutu because they are super pretty. It was definitely difficult to perform because I had a tiny piece of marley and I [couldnt] travel as far as I normally would. Overall though, the variation went super well and I felt strong on pointe.

Protecting the ball, senior RB Cade Haught looks for a hole during the Timberwolves 56-24 win over Georgetown on Friday. According to MaxPreps, Haught carried the ball nine times for 81 yards and three touchdowns. “It was pretty surreal, but I was hyped and felt good to be a part of beating Georgetown,” Haught said. “My confidence grew more and more as I ran into that end zone every time.”
