Junior Skyler King shadowed at Community Impact for her Career Investigation Day where she got a tour of the printing press and spoke with several employees including one of the head editors and a designer. “I really think [my favorite part] was talking to the designer,” King said. “Before I thought I really wanted to focus on just pure writing with journalism, but I thought what she did was maybe even cooler and it really made me rethink what I want to do, like if I want to do social media design, or graphic design or something like that.”

Teen Court has meetings on Mondays, twice a month. “I originally did [Teen Court] for the service hours that it offered but stayed because of the connections,” Edwards said. ”The skills I’ve learned in public speaking and argumentation have helped me so much.”

Being involved in DECA, which requires students to take CTE course, and having taken Computer Science I in her freshman year, this was the first course Manoel considered as she already felt familiar with the environment. “I’d definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in pursuing computer science or cybersecurity,” Manoel said. “The workload is manageable, but still gives you the knowledge you need. Overall, it’s the environment that keeps me motivated to come to class every time.”

Bringing her arm over her head and taking a quick breath, junior Lauren Lucas swims the final laps of the 500 freestyle at the regionals swimming competition on date. Lucas broke the school’s 18-year-old record for the 500 freestyle at regionals and again at state with a time of 4:58.63. “I’d had my eye on that 500 record since my freshman year, so I was really excited to see if I could get it at regionals or districts,” Lucas said. “ State is always a really fun experience and medaling for the first time was really great. It was a very very tight race, [so] I was a bit surprised [that I medaled]. Padilla placed 10th overall and second in the consolation final in the event, dropping two seconds. “My family was there, so being able to drop time for them was really special,” Padilla said. “It was awesome [finding out I advanced to the consolation finals]. Junior Swimmer Ella Mongenel commits to the University of Texas to continue her academic and athletic career on the Women’s Swim and Dive team. She has been in communication with the Longhorn swimming staff since June, and committed in November. “Even though swimming is so individualized when you compete,having teammates there to support you makes a big difference,” Mongenel said. “I am thankful for all the people that I have met throughout my swimming career and how they helped me push through.”

The boys swim and dive team finished in second place at the meet. "I also try to be positive and encourage everyone on the team," Huang said. "I love the team. I love the people on the team. It's more team based, so if you don't necessary do well at a swim meet you're still having fun cause you're hanging out with your friends.

Holding the film tripod, varsity manager, junior Hadrian Hurn, helps the team by moving the film iPad in between sets against Leander on Oct. 17. The varsity volleyball tell battled against Leander and ended the match with a victory in the fourth set. "My favorite thing about being a manager is being able to help out with practices and going to watch all the games,"Hurn said. "Being a manager helps me as a player because I can watch high level volleyball and watch how people better than me play, and apply the playing style or techniques and form to how I play in my practices and games."

In the weight room, Coach K directs her basketball athletes as they get a lift in during their athletic period. According to Coach K, she hopes to not only continue the success of the program but also make them better players and people. “I feel like one of my biggest roles is to be a mentor and a person they can look up to,” Coach K said. “Someone who will be there for them long after they’re gone from the program.”
