Junior Skyler King shadowed at Community Impact for her Career Investigation Day where she got a tour of the printing press and spoke with several employees including one of the head editors and a designer. “I really think [my favorite part] was talking to the designer,” King said. “Before I thought I really wanted to focus on just pure writing with journalism, but I thought what she did was maybe even cooler and it really made me rethink what I want to do, like if I want to do social media design, or graphic design or something like that.”

Typing away on her computer, junior Stephanie Manoel works on an assignment for her cybersecurity class. Being involved in DECA, which requires students to take CTE course, and having taken Computer Science I in her freshman year, this was the first course Manoel considered as she already felt familiar with the environment. “I’d definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in pursuing computer science or cybersecurity,” Manoel said. “The workload is manageable, but still gives you the knowledge you need. Overall, it’s the environment that keeps me motivated to come to class every time.”

The architecture club meets biweekly on Tuesdays in the classroom of chemistry teacher Lauren Buntin and meetings are led by senior students Chance Meyer and Mateo Guerrero, who serve as co-presidents. To enhance engagement, the club has organized various building challenges during its meetings and has even had a professor from the University of Texas speak with the members. “The main goal of the club is to promote interest in architecture,” senior Noah Martinez said. “[We want] enough [interest] to get the school to create a class to teach us about architecture.”

Bringing her arm over her head and taking a quick breath, junior Lauren Lucas swims the final laps of the 500 freestyle at the regionals swimming competition on date. Lucas broke the school’s 18-year-old record for the 500 freestyle at regionals and again at state with a time of 4:58.63. “I’d had my eye on that 500 record since my freshman year, so I was really excited to see if I could get it at regionals or districts,” Lucas said. “ State is always a really fun experience and medaling for the first time was really great. It was a very very tight race, [so] I was a bit surprised [that I medaled]. Taking a breath as he raises his arm up and out of the water, sophomore Kaden Padilla swims the 500 freestyle at the UIL state meet on Feb. 21-22. Padilla placed 10th overall and second in the consolation final in the event, dropping two seconds. “My family was there, so being able to drop time for them was really special,” Padilla said. “It was awesome [finding out I advanced to the consolation finals]. I give this documentary a 10/10.

The Celebrities Line and Social Officers line up for a professional group picture that brings context to their Spring Show theme for this year, “Up, Up And Away." On April 30, the Celebs hosted a kids dance camp, participants from which will also have the opportunity to participate in the show. “Some kids chose to dance in the show and a few celebs volunteered to be up there dancing with them,” junior Laura Hunter said. “It will be a great way for them to have a performance experience and see the final dance.”

With busy schedules, it can be really difficult to find time and motivation to work out and keep a healthy lifestyle while keeping up with all school activities. This has motivated juniors Bella Rivera and Ashley Dahse to create the brand new club, “Health n’ Fitness” to promote healthy lifestyles around campus and connect with people on this same journey. “We created this club to help encourage people to get involved with healthy lifestyles as well as motivating ourselves too,” Dahse said. “This way we could continue our journey together with helping other like-minded people.”

The French Legation Museum, the oldest recorded building in Austin, is home to a vast range of history. Once belonging to the 19th century French diplomat Alphonse Dubois, it now gives visitors the opportunity to learn more about the early history of Texas and see how life was back then with their own eyes. I loved my visit to this museum as it gave me new information about a person in Texas history that I didn’t know about, and being able to see some of the objects and house interiors from that time made me feel as if I had traveled back in time two centuries.

At the end of march, choir presented a magical performance featuring many Disney princesses and their friends. This April, Anna and Elsa are coming back with the theatre department with Frozen jr. One of the main goals of the club is to provide a fun environment for students to relax and unwind from a busy day. “Ping- Pong club is about students with a similar passion in ping pong coming together and improving each other,” senior member Jay Kannam said. “A usual meeting consists of putting tables together and playing, and sometimes we also hold tournaments to see who has improved over the week.”

But, as time passed by, the bigger picture started slowly forming, and I started to become truly involved in the story, sympathizing with the characters and transporting myself into their world. During meetings, members have time to work on their work and share it with other members, in order to improve their work.“I believe many students write poetry, as I did as a young person, and they have no one to share it with,” club sponsor and English teacher Ms. Iskra said. “Poetry Club is an opportunity for students to meet other people who write poetry and share their own work in a supportive setting. [The club] is an opportunity for students who love and perhaps write poetry to share it with other interested students. We also seek to improve and promote the craft of poetry composition through practice and performance.”

With the Halloween season just around the corner, horror and mystery books are becoming the go-to at the library. Some good spooky season reads include "IT" by Stephen King and "Home Before Dark" by Riley Sager.

Posing together in the UT parking lot, WISE members smile at the camera together on one of the club's fieldtrips to the UT campus to look throw telescopes. Fieldtrips are a big part of WISE, bringing science outside of the classroom. "We traditionally go to the UT campus and look at the telescopes and tour the campus at night," club sponsor and Physics teacher Allison Trueblood said. "[We also] go on other field trips to different science museums around."
