In an executive order signed on Jan. 20, United States President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Justice to refrain from enforcing an Act to control foreign-owned apps, such as TikTok, for 75 days. “Americans deserve to see our exciting Inauguration, as well as other events and conversations,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “Without U.S. approval, there is no TikTok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars - maybe trillions."

After placing second in their respective LDEs at the Capital District contest in early November, freshman Jesus Jaramillo-Gallegos and freshman Wyatt Pickett will compete at the Area XII LDE contest in Georgetown on Nov. 23. Jaramillo-Gallegos is competing in Greenhand Spanish Creed Speaking, while Pickett’s LDE is Greenhand Creed Speaking. “Honestly, [I’m excited for] just traveling around, maybe meeting more people,” Jaramillo-Gallegos said. “And [I’m] nervous about probably just not being able to define my weak areas. I feel like I did decent for my first time ever doing this. I just think it’s fun.”

Posing for a picture together, the Celebrities welcomed the Blue Belles to CPHS to learn the “Sister Kick” dance for the Nov. 1 halftime. Tony and Tina's Wedding is a loosely scripted long-form improv show, that takes place in the late 70's. "I think I always have something to say to someone, when I'm in character," Loudenslager said. "I always have a line that I can just improv, but I think sometimes it could be really hard to be able to place yourself physically in a place that you should be while a certain scene is going on. Sometimes you're not supposed to see a certain scene, sometimes you either forget about it, or you don't know. You have to be really careful about that.

Hall’s project is focused on the relationship between celebrities and their fans and how that affects purchasing celebrity products. “Since the career path I’m looking into is focused on science and research, I hope to gain experience from this entire journey in AP Research,” Hall said. “As this certainly will not be the last time I write a research paper or construct a study, I hope to have gained knowledge on exactly how to do that in the future. I have received so much support from Mrs. Brannan and my peers as well.”

Because he is a recipient of this scholarship, he will join the marines. “It means a lot [to receive this scholarship,” Rechtfertig said. “It’s very calming because a lot of the colleges I applied for are out of state which is expensive and this scholarship pays it off. And I want to serve so it gives me the ability to both go to school and then serve after.”

Every month, sponsored by the poetry club, the library hosts a poetry reading. “I never thought I would be interested in [poetry readings] because I’m not the biggest poetry fan,” Walters said. “I think poetry is a very succinct way to express feelings and get a story across. Whereas lots of books have a span of a whole story, but it’s put in a lot of words. The power of poetry is that you can be so succinct within, and there’s a lot of power within the words that are used.”

Holding sanitizing wipes, the HOSA MRC team prepares to clean Mrs. Hert’s classroom. Dedicated to educating the community about various public health issues, this student led group spreads awareness by cleaning desks and doorknobs of classrooms to encourage cleanliness and prevent germs and the spread of the flu. “Spreading information to our community will make them better prepared in emergencies,” senior Emlee Yonga said. “It’s important to me that the student body is knowledgeable of how to stay healthy to keep themselves and others safe. Healthy lifestyles are overall very beneficial as they can lead to a better quality of life and improve mental health.”

Staring at her monitor, APUSH Teacher Ms. Anderson starts working on her next lesson to keep students engaged. "History is a lot more interesting when you're not bored." Anderson said. "It's also something that teaches you how to look at the world in different ways, and it teaches you how to think critically. It's more than just learning about facts and dates and stuff like that. It's about learning how life works around you, and when we come at history that way, and we invite kids to engage in that discussion in that thought process, and to see how even though this happened 100 and some years ago, it's still relevant."

"I feel really good," Breiner said. "We've been winning a lot and playing more as a team. Our team chemistry is very good, and I'm very confident going into district."

The team beat Georgetown 3-1 at The University of Mary Hardin Baylor on Nov. 19. “I couldn’t be more proud of the kids and everybody behind the scenes,” head coach Lori McLaughlin said. “Georgetown is an amazing team, so this is a hard win. We just continue to be fueled by our wins and the motivation we have to keep our season going.”

Sucking in a breath of air, freshman Lily Pope competes in the 200 yard individual medley. On Oct. 25, the swim team competed in the AISD Swim Invitational. Overall, the girls team took second place and the boys team came in eleventh. “My favorite stroke is butterfly because I do the best in that stroke,” Pope said. “I feel like [butterfly] can test how [your ability] to convince yourself to keep going. The hardest part of swimming is convincing yourself to stay strong and keep pushing during a hard race [when] everything is tired.”
