Funny Girl is a classic, family friendly love story of a nice, funny girl who falls in love with a gambler. This weekend, the theatre program will be performing the show for their fall musical.

Funny Girl will be performed in the PAC Thursday Nov. 30 through Saturday Dec. 1 at 7:00 p.m., as well as a 2:00 p.m. show on Saturday. Student tickets will be sold at the door for $8 and for the general public at $13.

Senior Abby Holtfort plays the lead, Fanny, and is also the choreographer of the show.

“Fanny is unapologetically loud and silly, but also caring,” Holtfort said. “She cares deeply about people and she is a little awkward.”

Holtfort also mentioned that she is excited to put to use all of her training.

“I am excited to sing the songs,” Holtfort said. “I have been taking voice lessons, working out and running through the scenes, and I spend a lot of time choreographing the show.”

Before every show, the theatre forms a circle to talk about the show, do warm ups and give each other support and encouragement.

“It is really nice to see all our work come together and watch our hard work pay off,” Holtfort said.

The theatre has rehearsed Monday through Thursday after school and according to junior Zoe Parkinson, an actress in Funny Girl, it is going to be a fun show. Parkinson has made closer bonds being a part of this years show.

“When we start the rehearsal process, most of the time the freshman and people new to theatre don’t know the rest of us, but by the time the show opens everyone is so close and it really feels like a family,” Parkinson said. “I’ve become close friends with so many of my castmates. We all spend so much time together working on the show and getting to know each other that I can’t imagine not having met my cast.”
