The “Wicked” movie was released on Nov. 22. Based off of the Broadway musical, “Wicked” is a prequel/villain origin story for the Wicked Witch of the West from “The Wizard of Oz.” I highly recommend this movie for anyone who likes musicals or someone who’s just looking for a good movie to change them for the better.

Holding the Grand Nationals trophies, drum majors Helashi Wijayawardhana, Abigail Pettey and Eddy Kim pose for a photo. The BOA Grand Nationals competition took place in Indianapolis on Nov. 14-17. “My favorite thing was just looking back at the field, and I was like, ‘Oh, crap. I know all of their names, I know who all of them are’,” Wijayawardahana said. “It's just insane to me that I was able to make so many connections. [Being a drum major] taught me how to build relationships with people who I’m not really that similar to, and how to juggle a ton of things all together.”

Holding Hatch, the therapy dachshund, freshman Ameya Gollapudi participates in a Mental Health Monday activity on Oct. 21. During lunch on Monday, the Divine Canines organization brought in some therapy dogs for students to interact with to help brighten their days and improve mental health. “Students are under a lot of pressure,” Hatch’s owner Sarah Thomas said. “I think that the benefit of having a dog around, a calming presence, is really valuable. It just brightens up someone’s day to visit with a dog.”

Smiling for her senior photo, senior Ava Perrone will put away her flag as co-captain of the color guard. She is going to attend Austin Community College to pursue her passion for fashion design and hopes to design costumes for future color guards, or work in fashion marketing. “I think it’s [been] one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had,” Perrone said. “It’s an experience that everyone should have, that family that you build and the community that you have. I’ll miss having my group together but I’m excited to go off and try new things.”

Catching a ball, junior Alivia Robinson plays at the Cedar Park vs Glenn game. Having played since she was 5 years old, she is dedicated to softball and has committed to UTPB for softball. “When I got my offer it took me a very long time to decide where,” Robinson said. “Softball has always been my dream for college, and UTPB is my fit. When [I committed] I knew I was going to be loved and supported.”

Pictured above is Olivia Rodrigo performing “the grudge” at her “GUTS” Tour. I left this concert feeling grateful, nostalgic and just overall so happy that I had gotten to be a part of such an unforgettable experience.

Pictured above is the crafting club social media page that junior Makena Filippoff and sophomore James Morris-Hodges created. The crafting club was created to allow students to have an opportunity to learn how to create different kinds of crafts and to collaborate with other students interested in crafting. “I love to do crafts but I find myself feeling lonely when doing crafts,” Filippoff said. “With no one to share my ideas or experiences with, it can get boring. I wanted to get a group of people that have an interest in learning [and] doing crafts to be able to have fun and socialize while crafting.”

Comedian Jo Koy gave an infamous Golden Globes monologue as the host of the event this year. His jokes caused a lot of controversy and speculation over the internet, leading to disapproval and hate over his “jokes."

Pictured above is the local Streets to Success campaign that juniors Jen and Roselyn Nguyen have organized. Their ultimate goal is to bring education to homeless children. “We work with a lot of kids and we see that if they don’t have an education it’s a disadvantage for them,” Jen said. “I feel very sad for these little kids that lack [an education] so I think [the project] is such a great way to make not just myself more educated on the matters but everyone else.” Used with permission from Roselyn Nguyen

Pictured above is a RealCare baby that is used for the baby care project. Students in the Human Growth and Development class had to take home these babies for a weekend and learn how to care for a baby’s needs. “I liked having a constant companion with me,” Lehman said. “I was never alone for more than two seconds because it was really loud and needed constant attention.”

A fan tradition of The Eras Tour is to make and trade friendship bracelets with other fans. At the end of the film, Swift shows her gratitude to her fans by displaying friendship bracelets to them. "The Eras Tour" concert film is a great way to relive the concert, experience it for the first time and have something fun to do for an afternoon.

Dressed like cowgirls, juniors Margo Bonavitacola and Brooke Ferguson pose for a photo before a country versus country club football game. Bonavitacola is an exchange student from France that Ferguson’s family is hosting this year. “My first football game was really a dream because it’s really an American thing and everyone in France is dreaming about that,” Bonavitacola said. “It’s so cool [and] I love it so much. I just enjoy the things that are really normal because it’s different and it’s not the same culture so I enjoy it.”

An alarm chimes out at 6 a.m on the first day of school. For some students, their least favorite part about school is how early they have to wake up. “I just was hoping it wouldn’t be as bad because I had to work this summer so I was kind of used to getting up early,” Ferguson said. “‘Maybe I’ll [get] used to it, but I’m not and I don’t want to get up.”
