Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the district Tuesday afternoon for refusing to display donated copies of the Ten Commandments in classrooms, according to a statement released by his office. “These rogue ISD officials and board members blatantly disregarded the will of Texas voters who expect the legal and moral heritage of our state to be displayed in accordance with the law,” Paxton said. “Round Rock ISD and Leander ISD chose to defy a clear statutory mandate, and this lawsuit makes clear that no district may ignore Texas law without consequence.” Photo by Kyra Cox

Superintendent Bruce Gearing was announced as a finalist for the superintendent job for Conway Public Schools in Arkansas Friday. Gearing, who has served as superintendent since August 2019, did not notify the school board of his job search prior to the finalist announcement. "While this announcement came as a surprise to the Board, we want to assure our community that the Board remains dedicated and focused on our purpose — serving students, supporting staff and continuing the important work happening across our classrooms and campuses every day," the district said in a press release Friday. Drip-N-Rip Vapes had two locations affected by burglaries from a juvenile crime ring, with one pictured above. Following the crimes, this location implemented cement pillars and bars across the window as an extra safety measure. “People are out to get anything,” store manager Trey Fawley said. “Honestly, preventative maintenance like this is now necessary. It sucks that you do have to spend money to stop people from doing something they shouldn't be doing in the first place.”

This is the band’s seventh year in a row winning first place. “What really kept me motivated was just all of the people,” Chung said. “I tried really hard to connect with as many people as I could in the band and I think that it really paid off because it motivated me to continue to inspire, continue to grow and connect with everybody I know. It truly didn't just motivate me, but it also pushed me to grow as a person as well.”

Broadcast, yearbook and newspaper combined for 66 Interscholastic League Press Conference awards this year. Yearbook won 43, newspaper won 14 and broadcast took home nine. “I think [the ILPC awards] are a great way to give the kids some acknowledgement for all of their hard work,” newspaper and yearbook adviser Paige Hert said. “They typically spend the year covering everyone else’s big moments, so it’s really cool for them to be celebrated so many times and in so many different ways.”

Sitting in his home dugout, senior Kyle McClure stares out onto the turf he has spent all four years of high school on. McClure has been working toward receiving his private pilot certificate throughout high school, and said baseball has helped him learn the leadership skills needed to be a pilot. “I’m really big on how baseball’s helped me grow not only as a player, but as a person,” McClure said. “When it comes to flying, as a pilot, you have to have leadership skills. You don’t want to just let someone else do it because 150 people, 200 people are relying on you to fly that plane. Bringing her arm over her head and taking a quick breath, junior Lauren Lucas swims the final laps of the 500 freestyle at the regionals swimming competition on date. Lucas broke the school’s 18-year-old record for the 500 freestyle at regionals and again at state with a time of 4:58.63. “I’d had my eye on that 500 record since my freshman year, so I was really excited to see if I could get it at regionals or districts,” Lucas said. “ State is always a really fun experience and medaling for the first time was really great. It was a very very tight race, [so] I was a bit surprised [that I medaled]. As part of a field training operation, my brother, Hunter Williams, sits on top of a joint light tactical vehicle, JLTV, after going through vigorous activities. Like it is portrayed in the movie ‘Warfare,’ soldiers go through moments that seem unreal to the normal human. After watching this movie, I hope the recognition of my two brothers, Hunter, who's in the Army, and Hayden, who's in the Space Force, will become more prominent as well as recognition of other soldiers in the military. Students gather around a table selecting ribbons, trinkets, and supplies as they work on creating their own homecoming mums during the Den activity period. The Den hosted a mum-making event where students could share materials and ideas while learning how to make their own mums from scratch. “For mums, to buy all the stuff to make your own from scratch is really expensive,” Librarian Keri Burns said. “But if everybody has a couple of little things to offer and then everybody kind of makes it a group activity and shares, then the cost is divided and the fun is multiplied.”
