On Nov. 11 multiple students competed in the Central Texas District FFA Contests. These students prepared themselves with constant practice and training. The competitions ranged from quizzes to broadcasting to demonstrations.

Students such as Charlie Hoppe, Mackenzie Keefer, Grace Pierce, Ellyn Freiborg and Kyle DiClemente moved onto Area VII FFA Leadership Development Event Contests to compete again on Nov. 19.

Some FFA members competed in multiple contests, such as sophomore DiClemente.

“Preparing for the contest wa pretty much like taking a test in another class,” DiClemente said. “You get notes and information for that unit and then you take the test.”

The students that advanced onto Area all placed. The quiz team got ninth overall and Hoppe placed third in Creed Speaking and 10th in the Job Interview.

Hoppe practiced everyday for two hours on his Creed Speaking.

“Placing third at area was good, but only the top two make it to the state competition,” Hoppe said. “Given how competitive our area is, third place was pretty satisfying.”

Some members, like Connor Lowe, wish to improve in next years competition.

“I really hope to do radio again, and this time I will definitely practice more,” Lowe said. “I think that me and my group should have also practiced more together.”

Even though not everyone advanced, they all hope to do better in the upcoming year.

In May 2015, there will be one more Speaking competition. Meanwhile, many students in FFA are preparing for the WCLA show at the Georgetown Arena Jan. 15-19 to kick off the spring show season.
