Having recently opened at the start of October, Mojo Coffee, located off RM 620 in Austin, offers a wide variety of coffee and energy drinks for customers. These drinks range from coffee inspired by chocolate candy to sour energy drinks that will electrify your taste buds.
In addition to its Lakeline location, Mojo Coffee has four other locations in Burnet, Lampasas, Marble Falls and Liberty Hill. The coffee shop was founded in 2015.
A couple Tracks Yearbook staff members and I journeyed down to the small shop, curious as to what they offered. We parked in the small lot out front and decided to order inside, and as soon as we stepped inside, we were met with upbeat music and friendly workers. The countertop was filled with snacks and pastries, and below it was the menu listing all the available drinks.
The customer service was fantastic. I was met with smiles and singing as soon as I stepped into the café. There is even a disco ball in the back of the room. The lady that took our orders was super sweet and helpful, and I felt truly welcomed there.
In addition to having a wide variety of choices, every coffee can be either hot or iced. One of my favorite things was how great the pricing and sizes were. All of us got mediums, and for $4.50, we got a huge bang for our buck. It’s totally reasonable.
Ally’s Review: Caramel Latte (Iced Coffee)
As I scanned the menu, I looked for something that I already knew I liked. Having always been a fan of caramel-flavored coffee, I chose the caramel latte. When I first sipped this drink, my initial thought was “Yum. Coffee!” It tasted just as I imagined it to be. However, it took me a brief moment to find the hidden flavor of caramel, which I think was slightly overpowered by the flavor of coffee in general. Despite my small disappointment, I actually really enjoyed this coffee, and as I’m typing these words to you, I can 100% feel the caffeine surging through my body. Overall, this coffee receives a job well done. I would rate this drink an 8/10 with a high recommendation to people who just love coffee.
Ally’s Review: Timberwolf (Energy)
My exact thought process when choosing this drink was “Hey! That’s my school mascot!” However, after accidentally spilling a portion of this drink on myself and having to try it after the little mishap, I can strongly say I will not buy this drink again. This drink was a combination of blue raspberry and passion fruit and was a bright green color. Personally, I am not a huge fan of these bold flavors in a drink, but for an energy drink it is exactly what one would expect. I would definitely recommend this to someone who likes to drink Monster on a regular basis, as the drinks’ flavors are really powerful and a tad overwhelming. I would rate this drink a 5/10, and would advocate this drink to a student whose taste buds aren’t afraid of creative and concentrated drink flavors. I would also recommend this drink to whomever is interested in candy-like energy drinks.
Tristan’s Review: Almond Joy (Iced Coffee)
Initially when reading the menu, this drink sounded sugary and almost overpowering with its chocolate, almond and coconut. But, it turned out to be quite nice to drink in the end. The flavors come together to form a nice combination that still tasted like coffee. The coconut and chocolate flavors come out the strongest, while the almond is very subtle. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who is looking for something that is a replica of an actual almond joy, but if you just like coffee, then this drink is really good. I would rate this a 9/10.
Tristan’s Review: Pixie Stick (Energy)
I’m going to be honest, but I would’ve never chosen this drink off the menu by myself. But, it actually turned out to be pretty ok of a drink. It is extremely sweet and extremely strawberry flavored, but I could drink a small size if I didn’t want coffee. I wish that the almond and peach flavoring in it were more vibrant, as it really just tastes like strawberry soda. They do use great ice for these drinks at Mojo Coffee, though, so that’s a definite plus. I don’t think I would get this drink again, but for anyone who wants a pick-me-up and doesn’t like coffee, this is a good contender. I rate this drink a 6.5/10.
Tristan’s Review: Aloha (Hot Coffee)
I was recommended this drink after hearing really great reviews, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. It is my go-to hot drink when it’s really cold outside. This drink has chocolate and macadamia flavors, along with being made with Breve (I don’t know what exactly that is, but it tastes good). The macadamia flavor comes through without being too nutty and overpowering, as well as the chocolate flavor sweetening it without making it a sugary mess. I would recommend this drink for anyone who likes really any hot coffee drink and wants to try something new. I would rate this a 9/10.
Nathan’s Review: Dark Chocolate Mocha (Hot Coffee)
When I walked inside Mojo Coffee, I had an open mind of what I was going to try as my first drink. When I saw the dark chocolate mocha, I knew that’s what I wanted. The combination of dark chocolate sauce, chocolate milk and coffee comes together to make an overall pretty good drink. At first, the drink tasted similar to any other mocha drink, but the aftertaste had a slight bitterness that I think makes people favor dark chocolate over milk chocolate and white chocolate. However, with all the chocolate and dairy, it is a bit overpowering, and it could lead to an unwanted stomach ache, so I recommend getting a small or medium to avoid this. While the drink was enjoyable, I wouldn’t want to order it on a regular basis, but I would definitely get it again. I would rate this drink a 6.5/10.
Overall, we all enjoyed our drinks and will definitely be going back for more. If you are all about supporting local businesses and want some good, tasteful drinks, Mojo Coffee is the place for you.
