Towards A Healthier Life
About the new “Health and Fitness” club and what it’s all about

With busy schedules, it can be really difficult to find time and motivation to work out and keep a healthy lifestyle while keeping up with all school activities. Work piling up, extra-curriculars demanding multiple daily hours after school and trying to keep up with personal lives can cause students to forget about how important it is to take care of themselves and their health.
Over the years, scientists have proven that exercise develops endorphins, which contributes not only to the general well-being of the person, but also with several factors that can help us study and retain information easier. Some of the specific areas that it helps with include improved concentration, memory and decreased stress levels.
It has also been proven that people are most likely to stay motivated to exercise and follow a healthy lifestyle when there is someone doing so with them.
All of this has motivated juniors Bella Rivera and Ashley Dahse to create the brand new club, “Health ‘n Fitness” to promote healthy lifestyles around campus and connect with people on this same journey.
“We created this club to help encourage people to get involved with healthy lifestyles as well as motivating ourselves too,” Dahse said. “This way we could continue our journey together with helping other like-minded people.”
Coming up with the idea well into the year has brought some challenges to let people know about the club, as students have already settled down into the school year and found the activities that they would like to be part of, but with the help of creative ideas and outlets, the club is getting more and more members as the days pass.
“In order to let more people know about this club, we put up posters around the school at our last meeting made by our social media manager, Abby Martinez,” Dahse said. “ We also created a Remind so people that join it can get notifications about whenever we are having meetings.”
Some students, such as junior Lauren Todack, have already started to come to the meetings and get more involved in it, helping the creators to expand it.
‘I found out about this club through my friends that started the club and decided to get more involved before it blew up,” Todack said. “I hope to make many new friendships through it and figure out new ways to have a healthy lifestyle.”
And even though the club is fairly new, they already have many different opportunities planned out, ranging from exercise activities to trying out new restaurants, for members to enjoy a healthy lifestyle while having fun and making new friendships.
“As we have only started having meetings two weeks ago, our focus on them has been to start advertising and try to figure out how to get the word across and start planning our calendar for April and May,” Rivera said. “But one of the activities that we are planning on doing in the near future is Goat Yoga.”
The organizers are planning on also having outside of school meetings once a month to further the experience and be able to do more projects.
“Some of the activities that we were planning include Soul Cycle classes, going to eat something healthy and maybe even getting smoothies together as a club,” Rivera said.
Promoting a fun way of doing things that benefit your health, this club is open to everyone that would be interested in following a healthy lifestyle through innovative programs and with like-minded peers.
“We will be having informal meetings every Tuesday during DEN in Ms. King’s rooms to talk about ways that we could improve the club,” Dahse said. “And soon we will also start our outside of school activities that anyone interested is welcome to join.”
