When deciding what you want to do during your weekend break from school, a pumpkin patch is probably not the first thing you think of. And while going to the movies with your friends or eating out at your favorite restaurant probably make it to the top of your list, try making room for a pumpkin patch, because Sweet Berry Farm may have more to offer than you think.
Sweet Berry Farm is a pumpkin patch in Marble Falls that is free to enter but contains some activities that come at a price. There is something for everyone there, from the Berry Bounce for children to the flower picking for sentimental moms, and of course, there are lots and lots of pumpkins.
When you enter the farm, you’ll first see the various photo opportunities. Not only are picture-perfect pumpkins laid out on the field, but a rusty truck surrounded by hay and pumpkins displays the Sweet Berry Farm logo in all of its fall-aesthetic glory. Despite some grumbling from my brothers, my family and I took full advantage of the pumpkins and truck to get some fun pictures together. For smaller kids, or big kids who don’t mind bending down a little for an adorable picture, there are two photo ops where you can stick your face through the hole and become a little girl riding a strawberry or a farmer feeding a goat some ice cream. I would highly recommend them—my sisters, mom and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
As you walk farther into the farm, one activity you can do is the Berry Bounce. It is for ages 2-15 and costs $3.75 for eight minutes. I didn’t quite make the age cut-off, so I did not participate. But as I watched, many kids were jumping around on the inflated half-circles who looked like they were having the time of their lives, so it seems like a fun activity to try for younger kids.
In addition to the beautiful orange pumpkins near the entrance, you will find shelves and shelves lined with pumpkins of all different shapes, sizes and colors. Each type is given a creative name and price per pound or per pumpkin for which it can be purchased. Some of my favorites were the Darth Vader pumpkins, Cinderella pumpkins, Mr. Ugly pumpkins and the Porcelain Doll pumpkins. My family and I had a lot of fun exploring all of the different kinds and picking out our favorites. There truly is a pumpkin for everyone.
Past the shelves of pumpkins, there is a small fenced-in area bursting with colorful flowers, ready to be picked. For $6.50, you can go inside and pick as many flowers as will fit in the small vase you are given. For some reason, this activity did not sound very enticing to my brothers so we passed on it, but if you’ve been wanting a little fall spirit in your kitchen or just want a fun activity to do with a child or a date, Sweet Berry Farm has got you covered with the flower picking.
Now for the section of the pumpkin patch I loved the most as a kid: the barrel train. For $3.75, kids (with a weight limit of 150 pounds) sit in their own little barrel on wheels and get pulled around by a large tractor, aka the Sweet Berry Express. I remember going there as a kid and having lots of fun riding around in my little barrel and looking at the pumpkins and goats as we passed by. I would recommend this activity 10/10 for any kids looking for a little adventure and fun.
In addition to the activities I mentioned, there are so many more you can enjoy such as the pony rides, pumpkin painting, candy corn maze and scarecrow stuffing. And while most activities are geared towards younger kids, many activities are fun for the whole family, and I think Sweet Berry Farm has something that anyone can enjoy. So as you’re thinking about what you want to do this weekend, give Sweet Berry Farm a shot. It may be just the thing to get you in the fall spirit and to have fun with your friends and family members.
