Cedar Park (4-2) defeated Marble Falls (3-2) 49-21 on Oct. 5 at Mustang Stadium for a season high score and a fourth straight win. In District 25-4A play, the Timberwolves are 2-0.
Timberwolf offense and defense were on their A-game. The 49-point score was an impressive addition to their composite 57 points for the season prior to the game.
As the final five minutes of the second quarter came to a close, the Timberwolves scored three touchdowns. With 26 seconds left in the second quarter, senior running back Nathan Harwell scored on a one-yard run.
Junior quarterback Nate Grimm finished the game with 112 passing yards and a rushing touchdown.
Two weeks prior, Marble Falls quarterback Mike Richardson set a state record for the most yardage by any Texas high school quarterback. He threw for seven touchdowns with 724 passing yards in a win over Boerne Champion.
Despite Richardson’s record, Black Rain defense was an unstoppable force.
In two consecutive plays, the Timberwolves displayed their power over the Mustangs. A quarterback sack by senior Austin Hisler and an interception by junior Lane Waller proved that Richardson could be stopped. Pressure on the rest of the Mustang offense slowed Marble Falls and held their score at 14.
The Timberwolves enter their bye week and will resume playing Oct. 19 against Rouse for the “Pink-Out” Breast Cancer Awareness game at Gupton Stadium.
