Striding away from the Belvedere building complex, junior Addie Johnson and Senior Cooper Johnson pose for a family picture in Vienna, Austria. The Johnson family lived in Austria for six years and while living there, Cooper said he enjoyed the freedom provided by public transportation. “I liked just the overall city and the public transportation,” Cooper said. “It gave me the ability to go anywhere I wanted whenever I felt like it.”

DEN, a 35-minute-long free period students are given, is used in many ways for a variety of purposes. Students use this time to work on homework, make up missed tests and sometimes catch up with friends. Lots of students use DEN to run “errands,” as well, whether that means picking up an assignment from a teacher, visiting with a student teacher or asking the librarian about a tech issue. Students can no longer leave their designated classroom during DEN, even to go to the restroom.

Soccer kick offs to playoffs

This year’s soccer season has brought success for girls and boys varsity soccer as they both take the title of district champions.

Now that they have won the district title, both teams are moving onto the first playoff game on Mar. 25. This season, both teams have put in a lot of hard work and dedication to get them to where they are.

“This year I have improved on communicating with my teammates,” freshman Jenna Lipscomb said. “I’ve also learned how to be more aggressive in the game.”

After three years of being on varsity, senior Lexi Brown also improved this season.

“I feel like I’ve become more of a leader on the team this year,” Brown said. “I’ve also gotten better with my left foot in terms of crossing even though I’m right footed.”

The girls weren’t the only ones who gained from this season.

“From being on varsity since freshman year, I have become more comfortable playing my best,” senior Brandon Mendoza said.

Moving on to playoffs, the team gets to show off all their hard work they have put into this season.

“I’m really excited about moving onto playoffs since this is my first time being a part of this team,” Lipscomb said. “I’m also nervous about it since we only get one shot at winning from now on.”

Both teams will play at CPHS on Mar. 25. The girls’ team will play Austin Crockett at 6:00 p.m. and the boys’ team will play Eastside Memorial at 8:00 p.m.
