Holding up a visual representation of the solar system, Baylor Astronomy Professor and department head Dr. Barbara Endl, PHD. gives a presentation on the solar eclipse during DEN on March 22. Endl explained the proper safety precautions to take on April 8 when the solar eclipse passes through Williamson County. “Make sure you have the proper protection for the eyes,” Endl said. “In terms of other safety measures, if you are going to go somewhere, be prepared. For example, pack water and snacks. The travel on the way back can be very complicated because everybody goes at the same time, when the sun is out of the eclipse, everyone leaves at the same time, so there have been lots of traffic jams in the past.”

Following through his swing, senior Logan Hedges hits to right field for a base hit in a scrimmage against Vandegrift on Feb. 3. Hedges said the team has big goals this year including making it to the State Tournament. “It’s definitely interesting considering that if we play super far playoff baseball we’ll be playing after we graduate,” Hedges said. “Just the thought of being able to go that far with the guys that we’ve been playing with for years now is just, it’s kind of inspiring. It’s what motivates me, just to think that you know there’s a chance to be out of high school still playing ball with my friends, so just one game at a time. One win at a time. Just figuring out whos going to do it for us.”

Poulsen’s car was stolen on Aug. 28 from the school parking lot, and was missing for a day before police recovered it. “I was shocked,” Poulsen said. “I never expected, especially in Cedar Park, for my car to get stolen. I still don’t know who [stole my car], but I wish I knew. I don’t think the cops are going to figure it out, because there’s no point. It already happened. We’re probably never going to know. I feel like it was a student, but who knows? [Nevertheless], Cedar Park is not that [kind of place].”

In order to hide their phone from other people, they will lower their hand and place it near the steering wheel. At night, people sometimes lower their brightness just so others can’t tell whether they are really on it or not. Even though people have come up with many different ways to text and drive, the fact that there are different ways is just depressing.

An alarm chimes out at 6 a.m on the first day of school. For some students, their least favorite part about school is how early they have to wake up. “I just was hoping it wouldn’t be as bad because I had to work this summer so I was kind of used to getting up early,” Ferguson said. “‘Maybe I’ll [get] used to it, but I’m not and I don’t want to get up.”

Leaning back on her right, varsity tennis member junior Mia Petty prepares to receive the ball with the traditional racket swing. For student athletes, the heat has caused many changes to previously created habits involved in sport practices, but it can also be a tool, according to Petty. The heat is definitely annoying, Petty said. There are so many things that you have to do to avoid exhaustion and it feels excessive at times. [However], I think the heat further encourages me to get outside. [I want to] be exposed to the heat as much as possible so I can better acclimate to being hot and tired.
