Spring Break to-dos

Bianca Jimenez

The countdown to spring has officially begun, leaving the haunting question, “What am I doing for spring break?”

Many students have already been talking up their spring break plans to get away and go to the beach with families and friends, making those who are staying here during spring break wonder what there is to do while everyone is away. To help make spring break memorable, here is a list of fun things to do around Austin and Cedar Park.

If you are looking to be outdoors, try going to Zilker Park. At Zilker Park you can enjoy the downtown Austin scenery without feeling like you’re actually downtown because of the nature surrounding it. While at Zilker you can visit the Zilker Botanical Gardens, which contain many exotic plants and flowers. If you are feeling more adventurous, try paddle boarding with SUP ATX on Lady Bird Lake in the center of downtown Austin. Want to do something closer to the Hill Country scenery? Take a hike through Bull Creek off of highway 360. Here you can walk through the nature trails and find a nice spot to cool off and take a jump in the waterfalls. If you are looking for something a tad closer, try Brushy Creek Park. You can play a game of disc golf, visit the skate park or take a walk on the 6.75-mile trail.

Looking for things to do while in the heart of downtown? Try Peter Pan Mini Golf off Barton Springs Road. Peter Pan is open from 9 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and has two 18-hole courses with various characters around each hole. For food, try HomeSlice Pizza or Hop Doddy Burger Bar on South Congress. Take pictures at Castle Hill, the graffiti wall downtown.

Staying closer to Cedar Park? Visit the Round Rock outlet mall next to IKEA for a day of shopping. While in that area, check out In n’ Out Burger, a food chain brought to us from California. Go bowling or play laser tag with friends at Main Event, or go bowling at Highland Lanes. Catch a movie at the Cedar Park Cinemark and dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings, both located at 1890 Ranch off of 1431.
