Striding away from the Belvedere building complex, junior Addie Johnson and Senior Cooper Johnson pose for a family picture in Vienna, Austria. The Johnson family lived in Austria for six years and while living there, Cooper said he enjoyed the freedom provided by public transportation. “I liked just the overall city and the public transportation,” Cooper said. “It gave me the ability to go anywhere I wanted whenever I felt like it.”

DEN, a 35-minute-long free period students are given, is used in many ways for a variety of purposes. Students use this time to work on homework, make up missed tests and sometimes catch up with friends. Lots of students use DEN to run “errands,” as well, whether that means picking up an assignment from a teacher, visiting with a student teacher or asking the librarian about a tech issue. Students can no longer leave their designated classroom during DEN, even to go to the restroom.

Resolution reading at Capitol honors CP

After winning state in both band and football in 2012, Cedar Park was recognized once again for their accomplishments. Barbra Spelman, head football coach Joe Willis, the drum line and the varsity football captains were honored at the capitol with a resolution reading.

“Going to the State Capitol with our football captains and members of our state championship band was a great honor,” Willis said. “To stand in front of our elected officials and be recognized as the first school in state history to have a championship band and football program in the same year was just another reminder of what a great school we have.”

Along with Willis, members from the drum line attended to be rewarded for their state title.

“Being recognized was a great reminder of the accomplishment we worked hard for,” Sarah Peterson said. “It was really cool to be recognized next to the football captains, because we come from completely different activities but we’re being recognized for a state title for the same school.”

Football captain and senior Riley Mayfield also had something to say about this experience.

“Being able to stand up with the other captains once again to be rewarded for our state title was really cool,” Mayfield said. “It was just a really cool experience.”

The resolution was read by Representative Tony Dale.
