In March, the Cedar Park Skills USA team participated in the annual State Championship Competition in Corpus Christi.

Skills USA is a club where students find something that they are good at or interested in, such as architecture, and then compete against other students who have the same skills. The Cedar Park students competed, and did well in their events, bringing home many awards.

Students who earned a State Superior Rating in Architectural drafting Projects were sophomore Ayah Alomari, senior Corey Cox and sophomore Kristen Grimm.

“I’m in Mr. Maduneme’s Architecture and engineering class, and I thought it would be a fun experience to compete in the competitions,” Grimm said. “My favorite part was supporting friends in the other competitions.”

Alomari also placed first in the Architectural Drafting Skills test and will be traveling to the national competition in the last week of June to compete in Kansas City, Missouri.

“I’m really excited for the competition, but also really nervous,” Alomari said. “There will be more competition than State, but it will also be really cool to meet people from around the country who are interested in the same thing as me.”

Senior Laura Fairbanks placed first in the Men’s haircutting event.

Students who earned a blue ribbon in the technical Drafting Projects are seniors Max Vargas, Shane Kelly, Max Doan and Aaron Ingram, junior Robin Davies and sophomores Mai Tran and Kristen Grimm.
