Antisemitism is one of the leading causes towards the Holocaust, and affects the lives of millions to this day. “I still care so much about education and I was aware of the Texas Holocaust Genocide and Antisemitary Advisory Commission through a friend, and thought that that really kind of related really well to me, as someone who cares about the rights of others and cares about education,” Fryer said.

After placing second in their respective LDEs at the Capital District contest in early November, freshman Jesus Jaramillo-Gallegos and freshman Wyatt Pickett will compete at the Area XII LDE contest in Georgetown on Nov. 23. Jaramillo-Gallegos is competing in Greenhand Spanish Creed Speaking, while Pickett’s LDE is Greenhand Creed Speaking. “Honestly, [I’m excited for] just traveling around, maybe meeting more people,” Jaramillo-Gallegos said. “And [I’m] nervous about probably just not being able to define my weak areas. I feel like I did decent for my first time ever doing this. I just think it’s fun.”

Every month, sponsored by the poetry club, the library hosts a poetry reading. “I never thought I would be interested in [poetry readings] because I’m not the biggest poetry fan,” Walters said. “I think poetry is a very succinct way to express feelings and get a story across. Whereas lots of books have a span of a whole story, but it’s put in a lot of words. The power of poetry is that you can be so succinct within, and there’s a lot of power within the words that are used.”

Smiling for her senior photos, Ally JohnPress celebrates her final year of high school at the 360 Bridge. This year, JohnPress served as editor-in-chief of the Wolfpack newspaper and worked to become a SNO Distinguished Site, which the staff achieved on Feb. 3. “Honestly, I worked tirelessly to achieve our SNO Distinguished Site award, and I could not have been happier when I got the notification on Twitter saying ‘Congratulations to the CPHS Wolfpack for achieving the SNO Distinguished Site award,’” JohnPress said. “When I knew I was going to be editor-in-chief, this was my absolute number one goal, and it is just so satisfying to be able to say we achieved national recognition. It was difficult and time-consuming work for the staff and I, and I am so proud that we were able to accomplish this.”

Clapping along to the beat while Rise Against The Storm plays at Blues On The Green on Aug 12 is junior Deirdre Wolf. Wolf met up with some friends at the festival and enjoyed listening to the music with them. “I was actually flying in from New York the same day, so I got off of the plane and immediately headed to Zilker Park,” Wolf said. “Where I met up with a good handful of current and past CPHS students. Shakey Graves was my favorite [performance] hands down, his music is simultaneously original while also being comfort music. I have a vivid memory of us all sweating in silence, fanning each other and waiting for the sun to go down.”
