From left to right, junior Cason Johnson and seniors Ryan Green, Caleb Taylor and Anthony Luparello stand in front of the screen where their movie was projected during the premiere. The Premiere was held at Milburn Park on Jan. 14 and can also be viewed on YouTube. “It was very surreal to present the movie in front of a lot of people that I knew,” Green said. “It was a surreal experience because up to that point, it was just us looking at this movie. But we got to share it with a bunch of people and the surreal part was people reacting to the movie. That was really cool to watch and see people laugh at the jokes that we wrote. It was very satisfying.”

Posing in their choir dresses, seniors Ava Callaway and Charlotte Newman take a photo at the Region concert. The concert was held on Nov. 12, and 47 of the choir program’s students practiced for 10 hours in preparation for the concert. “I love the Region concert,” Newman said. “It’s the best voices in the region all together, so basically every moment is so musical. I think my favorite part was definitely our ending song “Trinity Te Deum.” It’s just a gorgeous, happy song that is full of so many powerful chords.” (Photo Courtesy of Charlotte Newman)

The group also went to the Museum of Ice Cream and Whataburger. The main reason the event was planned was to strengthen their bond as a group, according to Riordan. “Pitch Black is always a very tightly knit community, so there’s always a lot of close bonding and friendships,” Riordan said. “I think this year, that’s especially true with the new members coming in. They’re all close with each other and so now we’ve grown closer with them as a whole. We’re honestly closer than I was with the last generation of seniors, which is my goal for this year.” (Photo Courtesy of Jackson Whitmire)

Holding a microphone, junior Abby Martinez, middle, hosts alongside two now-alumnis during last years Cedar Park Tonight. The entire broadcast staff has worked on the event since the beginning of the year, it’s a show that’s been hosted by the Wolfcast anchors every year since 2017. “I’m most looking forward to seeing all the segments on stage,” Martinez said. “Sometimes we don’t always know how things will play out with games like Egg Russian Roulette so it keeps the show interesting. I’m looking forward to bonding with the staff even more throughout the week and getting to show everyone the hard work we’ve been putting on. We spend most of our time featuring other students and programs so it’s cool to be able to have our own show where we still get to feature other programs but also a lot of our own work.”

From left to right, junior Mickie Koltz, senior Thomas Wu and freshman Ella Mongenel pose with their medals after competing at State. All three of the students passed the preliminary competition, with Wu earning gold for the 100-meter breaststroke and Koltz and Mongenel earning bronze for the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter freestyle respectively. “State this year was probably the best meet experience i’ve ever had,” Wu said. “While I had won last year, the guys and girls meet was separated and there were limited spectators, and so it was definitely not as exciting. This year, though, we had a very large team go from Cedar Park, and that honestly just made everything so much more fun.”

Singing on the PAC stage, junior Brady Allen performs the song ‘God, I Hate Shakespeare’ from Something Rotten. In addition to ‘Something Rotten’ the theatre program has put on ‘Carrie’, a haunted house and the ‘Cabaret’. “We’ve done a lot of preparing since the Summer, rehearsals have been going really well,” Allen said. “I go out with the main cast a lot to do more prepping or just to hang out and build chemistry. Mainly we’re just trying to have fun with it, not take it too seriously but still put on a good show.”

Juniors Natalie Danton, Isa Morgan, Tessa Griffin and Ainsley Harlans four phones show this years Spotify Wrapped. This is an event that is released towards the beginning of December every year. “I thought it was fine [Spotify Wrapped], I felt like they kind of tried too hard, with the intros and how it said things like ‘You understood the assignment’,” Griffin said. “It was kind of cringe. But overall, the information in it was good. I like that they added new stuff and kept it fresh. I thought it was pretty good overall, definitely better than Apple Music.”

Striking a pose, sophomore Aidan Johnson performs the song Money, Money, Money for the Pitch Black performance on Dec. 10. Johnson is a member of show choir and Varsity Mens Choir. “There’s definitely a bit of rushing to it, Johnson said. We don’t have a ton of time. But it’s really brought us together because we’ve had a ton of work to do, and we’ve gotten it done. We’ve been learning our music and it’s actually been going really well because this is the first real year that we have a show choir. So with that said we’re doing really well.”

Cheering alongside the other student section leaders, senior Emily Rangel tries to keep energy high while watching the football games. The next home football game will be on Oct. 15, at the Gupton stadium. “I wanted to become student section leader because I felt like I would be able to help bring everyone together and be as enthusiastic as possible after COVID made last year really rough, Rangel said. I wanted to make sure I had some sort of leadership position in order to be able to make my senior year and everyone else’s year memorable. My best advice to the underclassmen is to not be afraid to be loud and partake in anything they can. It’s not embarrassing to have school spirit and it makes the pep rally much more enjoyable if everyone participates.”
