Sight of Sound

I was lazily scrolling through Disney+ for something to binge on a late Monday night. I realized that Marvel had released a brand new original series titled "Echo." The star of the show was Maya Lopez,...

Cason’s Fanatical FNAF Movie Review

Cason Johnson, Reporter November 30, 2023

If you haven’t had the privilege to see this love letter of a movie on the big screen, then you are truly missing out. The 2014 last-ditch indie horror game turned cinematic phenomenon, almost a decade...

Actor Ralph Fiennes playing British writer Roald Dahl sits in his office reading his stories to the audience. Wes Anderson’s short film series partnership with Netflix was released over the course of four days at the end of September and featured adaptations of Dahl’s stories. The office of Dahl portrayed in the film was based off of his actual office that Anderson had the opportunity to visit.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” was released on Dec. 16 2022. Directed by James Cameron, the “Avatar” sequel features an updated cast. The production and animation was fantastic, however the three and a half hour length made it a bit difficult to watch fully through in the movie theatre. Considering its unoriginal plot, unnecessary length, and fantastic production, I’d rate this film a 6 out of 10. (Movie stills courtesy of 20th Century Studios)

Watching the Way of Water

Iliana Tangarova, Reporter January 27, 2023

I grew up watching the first “Avatar” movie. I remember my five-year-old self sitting in the IMAX theatre, anticipating the speakers to boom with sound and the screen to explode in hues of blue. My...

The comedy-drama, “Amsterdam”, directed by Oscar-nominated David O. Russell was released on Oct. 7, 2022. The story follows along three friends who find themselves the primary suspects of a murder, and have to find a way to clear their name while uncovering a worldwide scandal. Although the movie features an excellent, all-star cast with beautiful visuals to coincide, I felt that the movie was very predictable with lackluster writing that didn’t favor its extensive runtime. An Afternoon at Amsterdam

After another busy day of schoolwork and reporting, my friends and I decided to celebrate the week by going out to get sushi and watching the newest movie in theaters, “Amsterdam.” Considering the...

Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling” was released to theaters on Sept. 23 and had already gained a large following thanks to the well known actors involved in the film and drama between the films cast. The movie follows Alice and Jack Chambers, a couple living a perfect 1950s lifestyle fit with a nice suburban town and provided jobs thanks to the “Victory Project.” I thought the film was just okay and didn’t really live up to the expectations I had set for a film involving such big actor names and such an aesthetically pleasing movie.

Welcome to Victory

I sat anxiously in my theater seat as the sounds of 50s music paired with images of a small house party shine on the screen, not knowing what to expect next from a movie that got more publicity from the...

The film “Everything, Everywhere All at Once,” directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, was released on March 11 at Austin’s very own South by Southwest. The movie follows Evelyn Wang, a mother and wife, struggling with taxes as she continues to run her own laundromat sitting just below her familys small apartment. Through beautiful lighting, costuming and storytelling, I was left speechless and on the edge of my seat for the entirety of this perfectly put together movie.

Bagels and the Multiverse

Isa Morgan, Reporter April 25, 2022

First, it’s just a few shapes on the screen, then come the lines and finally the finishing touches of the “A24” title appear on the screen. Once I saw the iconic intro I knew the movie following...

Welcoming back the familiar faces of Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, this new addition to the “Scream” franchise also adds new faces such as Jenna Ortega and Dylan Minnette. This new installment to the series wasn’t as perfect as I had hoped but it was still exciting to see this modern adaptation to the franchise. The film keeps it’s classic “who done it” attitude and makes sure to keep viewers guessing who’s behind the mask.
