Broadcast, yearbook and newspaper combined for 66 Interscholastic League Press Conference awards this year. Yearbook won 43, newspaper won 14 and broadcast took home nine. “I think [the ILPC awards] are a great way to give the kids some acknowledgement for all of their hard work,” newspaper and yearbook adviser Paige Hert said. “They typically spend the year covering everyone else’s big moments, so it’s really cool for them to be celebrated so many times and in so many different ways.”

The Tracks Yearbook staff has finished making this year’s yearbook. The theme for this year’s book is “Bigger & Better,” and is organized on a weekly basis. “It was something new that we’ve never done before,” junior assistant editor Addison LoSurdo said. “I think we really delivered on how we did it and worked together to create each spread. The amount of new content, clubs and people that we were able to show on these spreads was a lot more than last year, so I think we should just be really proud of ourselves.” Graphic by Julia Seiden

Walking students through an in-class rat dissection lab, Anatomy and Physiology teacher Tyler Terry helps them connect rat anatomy to a human’s. Terry also teaches Medical Microbiology, Practicum in Health Science: Pharmacy Technician and is the HOSA sponsor. He expects district-proposed budget cuts to negatively impact class sizes in the coming school years. “It’s going to be a real challenge to try to reduce the number of teachers and squeeze the same number of students into fewer classes,” Terry said. “Classroom management is going to become more difficult for teachers, and students are probably going to feel even more cramped. She will attend the University of Texas at Austin with a major in theater and dance, specifying in stage management. “There's only so many regional and big productions out there, but the opportunities that I hopefully will be able to receive are going to be really awesome, fingers crossed,” Adair said. “We are very lucky at Cedar Park High School to be able to do so many shows and have a pretty good budget for most of them, but then you go and see Broadway shows and they have crazy projections and moving set pieces. Typing away on her computer, junior Stephanie Manoel works on an assignment for her cybersecurity class. Being involved in DECA, which requires students to take CTE course, and having taken Computer Science I in her freshman year, this was the first course Manoel considered as she already felt familiar with the environment. “I’d definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in pursuing computer science or cybersecurity,” Manoel said. “The workload is manageable, but still gives you the knowledge you need. Overall, it’s the environment that keeps me motivated to come to class every time.”

Sitting in his home dugout, senior Kyle McClure stares out onto the turf he has spent all four years of high school on. McClure has been working toward receiving his private pilot certificate throughout high school, and said baseball has helped him learn the leadership skills needed to be a pilot. “I’m really big on how baseball’s helped me grow not only as a player, but as a person,” McClure said. “When it comes to flying, as a pilot, you have to have leadership skills. You don’t want to just let someone else do it because 150 people, 200 people are relying on you to fly that plane. Bringing her arm over her head and taking a quick breath, junior Lauren Lucas swims the final laps of the 500 freestyle at the regionals swimming competition on date. Lucas broke the school’s 18-year-old record for the 500 freestyle at regionals and again at state with a time of 4:58.63. “I’d had my eye on that 500 record since my freshman year, so I was really excited to see if I could get it at regionals or districts,” Lucas said. “ State is always a really fun experience and medaling for the first time was really great. It was a very very tight race, [so] I was a bit surprised [that I medaled]. As part of a field training operation, my brother, Hunter Williams, sits on top of a joint light tactical vehicle, JLTV, after going through vigorous activities. Like it is portrayed in the movie ‘Warfare,’ soldiers go through moments that seem unreal to the normal human. After watching this movie, I hope the recognition of my two brothers, Hunter, who's in the Army, and Hayden, who's in the Space Force, will become more prominent as well as recognition of other soldiers in the military. On Feb. 27, Hulu released a documentary called “Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke.” The three episode documentary goes through interviews with the two oldest Franke kids (who are both adults) and Ruby’s husband, Kevin Franke, in addition to showing unseen footage from their YouTube videos. I give this documentary a 10/10.

Morgan Kasel, Assistant Editor

Morgan Kasel is a senior and this is her third year on the Wolfpack staff. The majority of her free time outside of school is spent playing soccer, reading or watching her favorite professional team, Atlético Madrid. She loves writing about people’s experiences in life, as well as creative short stories for fun. Her dream school is Gonzaga University in Washington and she plans on studying kinesiology and journalism. She hopes to continue on to graduate school for physical therapy. She is passionate about languages and writing and plans to travel during and after college.

Focusing on the path in front, senior Meghan Wilcox competes at the state track meet on May 7. Wilcox participated in multiple events, including 200m and long jump, and placed third in the 100m. “The 100m [has] always been my favorite,” Wilcox said. “It’s always pushed me to perfect my running and push myself to my top speeds. It’s also just a lot of fun to run that fast since you can’t maintain top speed past a 100m.”

Although the varsity team did not make it to finals this year, according to senior color guard member Bolt Gonzalez, the color guard was able to overcome many challenges, including virtual competitions. “We are all [in] guard to learn new things and be challenged so we are happy with the progress we have made this year,” Gonzalez said. “It sucks a little not having in-person competitions and performing in a mask is difficult at times but we can still be together and, to me, that’s what counts.”

After submitting their blind recordings, the choir was chosen to perform ACDA, which will hold a virtual convention on March 18-20. “I felt super excited and honored,” senior Sydney Solberg said. “Mrs. Holt had previously mentioned that it was one of her biggest dreams to perform at ACDA, so I knew it was a big deal and it was going to be a once in a lifetime experience.”

Looking to the side, senior Sydney Poulsen extends her leg while en pointe at the Celebrities holiday show on Dec. 13. This performance was the first time Poulsen had performed while en pointe in two years. "It was fun to be able to perform en pointe again,” Poulsen said. “I also loved getting to wear my old tutu because they are super pretty. It was definitely difficult to perform because I had a tiny piece of marley and I [couldn't] travel as far as I normally would. Overall though, the variation went super well and I felt strong on pointe."

After the students spend weeks working on their short stories, Alarcon invited other teachers and staff members to her DEN so the students could present their hard work. “Sometimes we get stuck in our subject area at school, but many of us are interested in other academic areas,” Alarcon said. “This gave admin. a chance to have some student interaction, which they love, and it gave teachers an opportunity to enjoy a different subject area from the one they teach. It's also exciting when teachers and coaches see their students excelling in other areas at school.”

The team was 12-2 in District, but lost to Dripping Springs in the Playoffs. "I think that this season went really well because we all came together as a team and strived to do our best, whether it be [at] practice or a game,” Gilkey said. “I love playing volleyball because of the team aspect; I think it’s so fun perfecting your craft with your teammates and laughing with them along the way.”

In honor of Halloween, members of the 4-H Toastmasters club hold a virtual costume contest. The club was created over two years ago with the purpose of helping students improve their public speaking skills. “Our club is best known for its warm, friendly and accepting environment,” junior Ruchi Sankolli said. “We emphasize kindness towards our members and advocate for constructive criticism and improvement for our members. We strive for this kind of environment because a lot of people who join us are nervous and sometimes afraid to speak out, so maintaining this environment is important.”

As a member of both Theatre Production and Musical Theatre, junior MJ Kelly has had to bring the usual theatre experience to her home. This year, with the separation between online and in-person students, many hands-on classes had to adjust to the new way of learning. “Theatre is still amazing, especially considering what we’re working with,” Kelly said. “But the lack of performances and shows, the main point of theatre, is making it a lot less [interactive] than usual. It’s just the way life is now in the pandemic.”

Wearing one of her three character outfits, junior Katie Smith poses in the Snow Queen costume. Smith first came up with the idea for a party princess business in March and quickly began the process of creating the character costumes and the budget. “My favorite thing about going to theme parks is interacting with the characters and having conversations with them,” Smith said. “I realized that that’s something I could bring to the kids right here in Cedar Park so I immediately started planning.”

After competing in many competitions this year, senior Jeffrey Morphis poses with his awards from FFA. Morphis competed in multiple categories, including Entomology, Chapter Conducting, FFA Quiz and Swine Skillathon. "I really love Entomology," Morphis said. “It’s a lot of fun going through a room of bugs and being able to differentiate between a Viceroy butterfly from a monarch. It’s also kind of fun to get reactions out of people when you tell them you’re on the bug team.”

They may be called assistant band directors, but they've always been associates, meaning we work together as a team [and] listen to each other."

With student choice sheets around the corner, students have the chance to pick classes that fit their interests and hobbies. While Cedar Park has a vast option of classes that students can take, there is the option to take courses, like Cosmetology and Autotech, at different campuses. “I took cosmetology because I prefer to work with my hands and to actually do things than to sit in a classroom all day,” junior Sophia Matthys said. “I am also not sure whether I am going to attend college or not so if I don’t go to college I will always have a career option.”

Freshman wrestler JJ Lovell gets ready to take on an opponent during the Capital Classic Tournament on Nov. 22-23. This was the third tournament of the season for the wrestling team, with five members earning top ranks, and senior captain Cassie King named Capital Classic Varsity Girls 110lb Champion. “After I won, getting my hand raised was one of the best feelings because winning a tournament against 25 other girls just shows finally how much work I’ve been putting into this sport by dieting well, training hard and constantly staying disciplined,” King said. “I ran and gave my coach a hug [after the match] because without him I wouldn’t have gotten this far."

After the previous Anime club disbanded a few years ago, Jensen and Gilmore decided to create the club last year in order to bring together fans of the Japanese-style art. "We decided that, since some people really enjoy Anime and it's kind of a niche community here at our school, we decided to make a club," Gillmore said. "Not only to have fun, but to also provide a way to give those people a place to have fun and enjoy themselves."

Sophomore Tamara Eslava practices fencing at the Texas Fencing Academy. Eslava began fencing a few months ago after she was inspired by the "Three Musketeers" movie. "At first I was kind of scared thinking I would never get the hang of [fencing] but [now], I've been practicing and practicing [and] I'm not there yet, but I think I am good enough," Eslava said. "What made me keep going was my own goals. I want to at least do a sport and if it's not a school sport, [then] an after school sport. I want to push myself to try new things and fencing was one of them."

The Spanish Wolfcast, or El Wolfcast, is filmed on Thursdays and airs on the CPHS News YouTube Channel on Fridays. Broadcast students, with the help of broadcast adviser Anthony Garcia, created the Spanish Wolfcast in order to reach out to the Spanish-speaking community at Cedar Park. "We have been testing [the Spanish Wolfcast] out and doing some practice shows this month," Garcia said. "The goal [is] to do a full launch in the next few weeks and role it out and announce it to the school district, announce it to the campus, announce it to parents that way our Spanish-speaking community members and parents are able to feel connected to what's going on at this school and feel like they are informed as well."

Juniors Stella Grispo, Andrea Medoro, Nele Stoetzner and senior Ronja Bosy all abandoned their comfort zones when they left their home countries and came to the U.S. The four exchange students will be spending the entire school year in Texas. “When I was younger, it was always my dream to live one day in the U.S,” Stoetzner said. “My neighbor [spent] one year in Australia and she told me a lot about [the exchange program]. I wanted to do an exchange to the U.S for the experience and to improve my English [and] to meet new people.”

Senior Jordan Deyo dangles upside down at the Cedar Park Police Department during COOL Week. Deyo plans to join the Air Force, and said that she eventually hopes to become a police officer. "My grandmother was in the military, specifically the Air Force, which is what I want to go into," Deyo said. "And I'm in a law enforcement family. Being in that environment just got me really interested in [the military]. My end goal is to be a police officer, and that would give me a lot of experience as well as help pay for my college in the future and give me a very strong foundation to where I want to go."

She began writing in eighth grade and after attending the camp, decided to publish four of her pieces. "I came in there thinking that I was terrible at poetry," Van Arnam said.
